YEAR OF DRAGONS CULMINATES WITH WORLDWIDE GAME DAY Nations United for DUNGEONS & DRAGONS® Global Event
October 20, 2006 (Renton, Wash.) - While 2006 is the Year of the Dog in China, this November the world will celebrate the Year of Dragons! Worldwide DUNGEONS & DRAGONS® Game Day, an international gaming event showcasing the iconic roleplaying experience, takes place Saturday, November 4, in more than 700 locations around the world.
Festivities include: - Simultaneous adventures in Charlotte, N.C.; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Edmonton, Alberta; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Belgrade, Serbia; and hundreds more locations, where in excess of 20,000 people will vie to set a new record for D&D® gaming. Fans can find an event near them by visiting www.dndgameday.com.
- Hollywood, California's festivities - held at Level 3 on Hollywood & Highland - will fittingly feature a special screening of the top three entries in the first-ever D&D fan film competition. More than 75 films were submitted, and America voted for the top 10. A few special guests will be on-hand to judge the top three films and award the grand prize.
- Master of fantasy and New York Times bestselling author, R.A. Salvatore, will travel to Italy to marshal the Italian edition of Worldwide DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Game Day from Lucca, the historic walled city in the heart of Tuscany. Salvatore's next classic, Road of the Patriarch, released last week.
"From Australia to Uruguay and all points between, this year's Worldwide D&D Game Day is a testament to the unifying power of games and the iconic role of the world's first and oldest roleplaying game," said Liz Schuh, Brand Director at Wizards of the Coast. "For over three decades the fantastical, otherworldly settings of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS have cemented friendships and fostered camaraderie for millions."
