LEGO® SYSTEMS REVEALS NEW STAR WARS™ PROMOTIONS AND PRODUCTS TO CELEBRATE THE SAGA'S 30TH ANNIVERSARY
- Hunt for gold C-3PO and Star Wars moviemaking contest fete LEGO Group's first and most successful license
AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL TOY FAIR, NEW YORK (February 10, 2007) - A nationwide hunt for a special golden LEGO® C-3PO and a LEGO Star Wars™ MovieMaking contest will help LEGO Systems celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars Saga, it was announced at a VIP bash for collector media held Saturday, February 10, at the Westin Times Square.
LEGO Brand Retail also unveiled its exclusive Ultimate Collector LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon™ - the largest LEGO model ever made available to consumers, now available for pre-order on LEGOshop.com.
Star Wars was the first license for the LEGO Group and remains its most successful line of licensed toys.
"These are the Droids You're Looking For" Promotion
The hunt is on as LEGO Star Wars fans search for never-before-produced, special-edition metallic gold C-3PO minifigures. For a limited time, 10,000 gold droids will be randomly inserted into select 2007 LEGO Star Wars sets. Collectors who find the gold C-3PO will be entered to win a special prize pack. The LEGO Star Wars sets containing the golden C-3POs will begin appearing on shelves in early June.
"A special edition metallic gold minifigure, especially of an iconic character like C-3PO, will appeal to collectors of all ages, making it a perfect way to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars franchise," said Michael Pratt, brand manager, LEGO Systems, Inc.
LEGO Star Wars MovieMaking Contest
Building on the popularity of short LEGO Star Wars movies like "Han Solo Affair" and the Cartoon Network exclusive, "Revenge of the Brick", LEGO Systems invites LEGO and Star Wars fans alike to try their hand at filmmaking for a chance to win the ultimate LEGO Star Wars prize pack and publication of their film.
This June and July, budding directors can enter their 3-minute movies in three age categories: 10 and under, 11-16 and 17+. Films will be judged for creativity and content, and finalists will be posted in August on starwars.lego.com, where the community will vote to determine the winner, to be announced in September.
"Putting the storytelling power of the Force into the hands of the fans who love LEGO and Star Wars the most is a great way to celebrate an important Star Wars milestone," said Pratt. "For years, we have been developing LEGO Star Wars story shorts, starring our collectible minifigures, like the comics for the LEGO Club magazine and our recent short films, so the 30th Anniversary year is a perfect time to see what stories the community will tell."
