Klutz Building Cards: Hogwarts School

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Klutz Enter Harry Potter Licensing Agreement

Klutz to Publish 'Building Cards™ Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry' in May 2007

NEW YORK, Feb. 12, 2007 -- Klutz, the innovative publisher and creator of "books plus" for children and a division of Scholastic, the world's largest publisher and distributor of children's books, today announced the publication of "Building Cards™ Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" -- the latest addition to its acclaimed Building Cards line. The "Hogwarts" Building Cards set is based on the castle seen in the Harry Potter films and is scheduled for publication in May 2007. It made its debut at the Klutz booth at the American International Toy Fair at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Center on Sunday, February 11, 2007.

Klutz Building Cards are construction toys large enough to accommodate boundless imaginations. Each package comes with a deck of beautifully illustrated leaves, perforated to break into cards in lots of different shapes. An accompanying guide provides instructions to build specific structures. Or, budding architects can create endless freestanding fantasy constructions of their own imaginings. The first three sets in the bestselling series, "How to Build Castles" (58 leaves/150 cards/knight figurine), "How to Build Pirate Ships" (64 leaves/226 cards/pirate figurine), and "How to Build Spaceships" (60 leaves/188 cards/astronaut figurine), have sold nearly 400,000 copies since fall 2005.

Because Hogwarts castle looms so large in the imagination of Harry Potter fans all over the world, Klutz has made the new Building Cards set bigger than its predecessors -- and packaged it with even more cards. Created for ages 8 and up, "Building Cards™ Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" will be packaged with 90 perforated leaves that break into more than 350 building cards, plus a hand-painted Harry Potter figurine. Sturdy slot-to-slot construction means there is no need for glue or nails, and the cards can be taken apart and re-assembled over and over again. (A good thing, since staircases at Hogwarts have a habit of moving around.) The instructions are filled with building ideas, assembly hints, step-by-step illustrations and directions so simple, even a Muggle could follow them.

"We think Harry Potter is one of the best things to ever happen in the world of kids' literature," said John Cassidy, Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Klutz. "So when the opportunity arose to help kids build a part of his world, we poured our hearts into the project. Hogwarts and Klutz turned out to have some real magic."
