FIRST WORLD HEROCLIX CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYED AT GEN CON INDY 2007
August 28, 2007 (SEATTLE) - WizKids Inc. hosted the first-ever HeroClix® World Championship at Gen Con Indianapolis 2007. In celebration of the fifth anniversary of HeroClix, international distributors around the world offered regional Nationals programs. The United States was represented by Wizard World Invitational Winner Scott Crampton as well as over 100 players who entered the competition through "open" play. The top 32 players at the HeroClix World Championship included five international champions.
"The first HeroClix World Championship has truly been a world-class event," said Ruth Leonard, WizKids® International Group marketing manager. "We were excited to celebrate the fifth anniversary of HeroClix by bringing together HeroClix players from around the world, including players from Germany, Italy, the UK and the USA."
The first HeroClix World Championship was won by Italian Champion Antonio Santangelo, sponsored by Counter Stratelibrir of Milan. The winners of Nationals tournament programs were offered the trip to Gen Con Indianapolis through international distributors' sponsorship including Pegasus Spiele of Germany and Devir of Spain. Each international champion competed in three days of tournaments at Gen Con.
Antonio Santangelo won the first HeroClix World Championship trophy, a replica Hammer of Thor from Diamond Select Toys & Collectibles (www.diamondselecttoys.com), and a trip to Baltimore to visit Geppi's Entertainment Museum (www.geppismuseum.com).
