Toys'R'Us, Inc. Kicks Off Ultimate Toy Drive and Creates Special Initiative to Help Parents Teach Kids How to Give Back
The Nation's Leading Toy and Baby Products Retailer Jumpstarts Campaign to Benefit America's Neediest Children with a $1 Million Donation of Toys
WAYNE, N.J., Oct. 25, 2007 -- As a company committed to helping all children in need, today, Toys"R"Us, Inc. announced the start of its Ultimate Toy Drive to benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Beginning this Sunday and continuing through December, all Toys"R"Us and Babies"R"Us stores across the country will collect toy and cash donations in an effort to make the holidays brighter for the 13 million children living in poverty in the United States. In conjunction with the campaign, the company will launch a program designed to help parents teach kids the importance of giving back.
As the largest retail partner in the 60-year history of Toys for Tots, Toys"R"Us, Inc. has raised more than $10.5 million and collected nearly one million toys since the partnership began in 2004. This year, the company is determined to make its annual toy drive the most successful to date, with a goal of raising $4 million through in-store and online donations. To jumpstart the campaign, Toys"R"Us, Inc. gave the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation $1 million worth of toys, and the Toys"R"Us Children's Fund awarded the organization a $100,000 grant.
"Toys"R"Us and Toys for Tots are a powerful match in helping to bring joy to millions of children across the country," said Jerry Storch, Chairman and CEO, Toys"R"Us, Inc. "The holidays are a perfect time to show the importance of giving back, and through our Ultimate Toy Drive we hope to provide new toys to more deserving children than ever before."
In addition to collecting toys and money, Toys"R"Us has also expanded its "ABCs of Giving" educational platform designed to help teach kids about the value of giving back to those less fortunate. Toys"R"Us developed the "ABCs of Giving," a list of tips for parents to use when discussing the importance of charitable giving with their children. To help bring this concept to life, and encourage kids to give back to their communities, Toys"R"Us created a special storybook, A Lesson in Giving. This year, for the first time, the book will be available for purchase at www.Toysrus.com/ToysForTots. For any book purchased between October 25, 2007 and December 31, 2007, Toys"R"Us, Inc. will donate 100% of the purchase price to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
The company will celebrate the launch of its Ultimate Toy Drive on Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 with Toys for Tots representatives at U.S. retail locations nationwide. New, unwrapped toy donations will be collected at Toys"R"Us and Babies"R"Us stores across the country now through December 9. This year, as part of the program, Toys"R"Us is matching the total number of toys collected in all stores nationwide to provide Toys for Tots with twice the number of toys for needy children. In addition, the company will also collect cash contributions from now through Monday, December 24 in all its stores and online at www.Toysrus.com/ToysForTots. All toy donations received during the campaign will stay in the community where they are donated.
"As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Toys for Tots, we consider it a special honor to partner with Toys"R"Us for the fourth consecutive year to help deliver toys to needy children this holiday season," said Lt. Gen. Matthew T. Cooper, USMC (Ret), President and CEO, Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. "Toys"R"Us has been a phenomenal partner, and as a result of their help we were able to provide toys to a record number of children last year. We look forward to making this year's campaign an even bigger success and delivering a message of hope to more needy children than ever this Christmas."
