Give In To The Darkseid!

Speaking of Superman... Like everyone hoped, STAS figures and toys are finally starting to hit stores in force due to the relaunch of the cartoon on the WB. All of the previously released figures seem to be in strong supply, including the formerly hard to find Darkseid. Since not too many pics have shown up yet, here's a close-up of the big guy's ugly mug at left.

Joe's Page Does It Again!

Joe Leung's page has shown many toys before the magazines do such as Total Justice 3, and untold Star Wars figures, mainly because he lives in Hong Kong where the figures are manufactured. Lately, he's been at it again with shots of the reposed Darth Vader and new Lando General figure.

Go check it out here.

Heroes Revenge Hits FAO

The Deathlock/Cyborg Spidey repaint two-pack has shown up at FAO Schwarz, where it's an exclusive. This is the first rerelease of the early 1990's Deathlock figure from Toy Biz, where he was part of the long dead Marvel Superheroes line.

Duke Nukem to Shoot up the Shelves!

Upstart new toy company Resaurus has snagged the Duke Nukem license and is running with it! This very nice figure with a great likeness is the first action figure to come out of this company, and it looks like they're trying to do it right.

Go check out Duke's weapons at Resaurus' web page, and keep checking back there for ordering info and more pictures.

ToyFare #3 Hits the Stands!

ToyFare is cruising along now, with a new issue that features SDCC news, McFarlane monster interviews, a GI Joe 3 3/4" special report, and an article on female figure collecting featuring Sarah Dyer. And don't forget their exclusive Wonder Man figure!

capsimian.jpg - 6.57 K
Go Figure! meets Captain Simian!

The fledgling magazine, Go Figure!, has apparently dived head first into figure distribution, even though the magazine hasn't yet hit many outlets across the country. They've picked up the dying Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys line, formerly found on clearance at Kay-Bee toys. Among the unreleased items that they will carry are the vehicles and the huge Gormongus, shown at left.

Tomart's Online Heats Up!

Tomart's Action Figure Digest Online has started to show more than just shelf reports in their daily update. Among the new items shown are the Hanger 18 exclusive Moon Knight figure, apparently made from a Hercules body with a Spider-Man head, the exclusive Wedge Antilles figure that is packaged with the Millenium Falcon Carrying Case, the K-Mart Heavy Metal Heroes die-cast pack, and the upcoming Exclusive Premiere Gilligan's Island figures.

Service Merchandise Catalog shots

Service Merchandise has released it's annual catalog and inside there are pictures and ordering instructions for it's exclusive 12" At-At Driver, and for the Lost World Mobile Command Center with exclusive Kelly Malcom fig (pictured at right). Other late JP2 releases include Sarah Harding and Peter Ludlow, now shipping everywhere.

Um, It Might Be Time To Get A Girlfriend Instead

You knew it would come to this. No, it's not inflatable. It's the new Hari Kari action figure from Blackout Comics which will be sold exclusively in comic and specialty stores. What makes it so special? It comes with an official, special "Nude Variant." You heard right. As if the bikini thong wasn't revealing enough, you will be able to order a variant of the figure with a removable breast plate. The regular figure is slated to retail for approximately $9.95 and will come with a sword and "Demonic Shield." The pictures shown are obviously an artist's rendering so the final production piece will certainly vary somewhat. Ask your local comic retailer for ordering info.

Toys From Your Comic Shop

Previews catalog from Diamond has added a new mini catalog just for merchandise and most of it is toy-related. In the first issue of Figure Factory, you'll be able to order toys right through your own local comic retailer. The catalog looks much like the "Merchandise" section of the regular Previews catalog. However, if you don't want all that bulk, you can get this slimmer model for a mere 75 cents. The new catalog also contains ordering info on statues, model kits, and other assorted merchandise. But beware, you can't necessarily order just the figures you want from an assortment. You comic retailer often must buy an entire case of figures, so it's best to check with them as to whether you can order any individual item. All in all though, this does seem to be yet another indication of the increasing popularity of the toy-collecting hobby.

New Toy Mag Will Soon Hit The Shelves

Yet another new toy-related magazine will be hitting the stands near you in the coming months. Inside Toys promises in depth news coverage and unbiased reporting (including an article titled "Toys That Suck"). Also tentatively included for the first issue will be an article on Toys R Us, the nation's largest toy retailer and their fight to retain that title. There will also be a look at the new independent toy companies and an article on how to start your collection for under $100. Following the recent trend, Inside Toys will also offer an exclusive 6" Fathom figure from Critical Mass Toys. We'll keep track of the development of this new publishing venture and we'll let you know what happens.

Get "Moore" in Toy Fare #5

Toy Fare will present its first non-Toy Biz action figure exclusive in issue #5. The figure will be a glow in the dark Evil Ernie from Moore Action Collectibles. The issue will also feature a Toy Fair preview, a new Alien poster, the Top 10 Hottest Exclusive Figures, and a contest to win a Toy Biz prototype figure in their "Foes of Wolverine" contest. You will find all this and more on sale in November.

New Issue of White's Guide On Sale Now

White's Guide to Collecting Figures continues its broad brush approach to collecting of various types. This issue contains articles on collecting Barbies (loose vs. NRFB), talking figures, and White's own Mega Show held recently in Richmond, Virginia. Not too much new info or pictures in this issue, but you do get a look at the new Starting Line-up Football figures. We're kind of partial to Ohio State alumnus, Heisman Trophy winner, Eddie George. Of course, he's now a Tennesee Oiler instead of a Houston Oiler. But hey, we're not bitter. Much.

Aunt Mail-Away

Here's a sneak peek at the first and only Aunt May action figure. This piece will be offered as a mail-in exclusive in Toy Biz's upcoming Classic Covers line that already features Storm, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and the Green Goblin. This exclusive offer will require a purchase along with a cash register receipt and coupon contained in the regular packaging. The cost will be approximately $19.99 plus shipping and handling.

The good news is that this exclusive will come boxed just like the other figures in the line. The packaging will be based on the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #115 (shown below). Production numbers for this mail-away have yet to be set in stone, but you can bet your Uncle Ben that they will be only a fraction of the number of the regular figures. Estimates have been as low as 10,000 pieces so get them while you can.

auntmaycover.jpg - 16.7 K If you are wondering where the Classic Covers figures are, fear not! They are coming. Originally solicited for August/September release, there have been production problems that have pushed the delivery date back. The official target date is now October, but informed sources say that November is a much more realistic goal. However, that is better than the January projection originally obtained! So these great figures should be in stores in time for Christmas.

The good news about the production problem (if there is such a thing) is that Toy Biz is meticulously working to correct some of the scale problems encountered in the test stages. As you might be able to see, Aunt May's head appears a wee bit small while her hands appear a tad large. But don't worry, this is merely a prototype and the actual production piece should address this problem and look much improved. The same holds true for the minor scale problems encountered on some of the regular release figures as well.

The Aunt May figure uses the same body as the Storm figure. Only the head, hands and costumes vary. So if you feel like undressing Aunt May, be prepared for a Freudian nightmare of epic proportions! In any case, when everything is worked out, these should be some of the best figures Toy Biz has ever done!

May the Schwarz be with you!

This exclusive is limited to 15,000 (5,000 less than the Kay Bee exclusive) and will sell for $59.99 (plus shipping). You can order yours now from FAO Schwarz at 1-800-426-TOYS (8697). The catalog number is #950311. Have your credit card ready!

Joe, and Aliens. The cover features G'Kar from the upcoming Babylon 5 line by Exclusive Toy Products. Also in this issue you can find Tomart's Annual Figure Design contest. Check out the rules and you might walk away with a little cash and a year's subscription to AFD!

Gen13 News from Wildstorm

A news release from the Wildstorm web site states that Gen13 figures are in development. The release states that the company plans on releasing 6 figures in the first series at a rate of one every other month. The first figure is slated to be Fairchild as designed by Jeff Scott Campbell. Later additions are reported to include Freefall, Danger Girl and a character from Jim Lee's new project called Divine Right.

No word on how these figures will be manufactured or distributed. It is unclear if Wildstorm will be undertaking this venture on their own or partnering with an established toy manufacturer. It is also unknown if these figures will be available in retail stores or only available through comic shops like the recent independent releases from companies like Skyboltz and Moore Action Collectibles. We'll keep you updated as soon as we hear more.

Thanks to Jason Sircy for the heads up on this info

Babylon 5 Pics on the Web

G'Kar.jpg - 9.4 K Babylon 5 fans can rejoice as they get their first glimpse of the upcoming B5 figures. The figures are being produced by Exclusive Premiere and are 9" tall with real cloth costumes. The first series of figures includes Captain John Sheridan, Ambassador Delenn and Ambassador G'Kar (shown here).

b5.jpg - 2.9 K Check out Exclusive Premiere's web site at http://www.exclusivepremiere.com for larger pics of all three of these figures as well as news about the Diamond exclusive figures to follow and a little hint about the 6" line that is in preparation.

The only thing that has fans nervous about these figures is their limited production run of 12,000 figures. Babylon 5 already has a huge fan base and with the show gearing up to get a big push from Ted Turner's media machine there might be more demand than currently anticipated. We hope that all the B5 fans will be able to snag these figures which appear to be top notch!
