Marmit Takes Aim With Star Wars Figure Kits

Stormtrooper loose and boxed Looking for the ultimate Star Wars figure? It might just be the new kit made by Marmit, a company in Japan that makes models and figures. They've released this incredible 12" Stormtrooper figure (that's actually a picture of the figure, not a costume from the movie!). The catch? It's a kit you have to build yourself, and at $85 to $100, it's pricey, but it's possibly the most accurate and detailed Stormtrooper depiction to date. When assembled, the figure is more of a "pose and display" piece than something to be played with, but it is fully articulated, so let that temper your buying decisions. Marmit will also be releasing 12" TIE Fighter Pilot and Sandtrooper figure kits (pictured below), possibly as early as August. And they've also announced their next kit will be none other than the most feared bounty hunter ever - Boba Fett!

Yo! ReSaurus Raps With Parappa!

lammy2.jpg -8K parappaani.gif -18K

ReSaurus has announced that they've signed a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment to be the exclusive U.S. importer for toys based on Sony's trendsetting Parappa the Rapper and Um Lammy Jammer videogames. Under the terms of the recently signed agreement ReSaurus also has the exclusive rights to create and distribute new product based on the games.

Toys for all of the characters have been available in Japan for awhile now, but up until now the only way for American fans to get them is through expensive overseas dealers. ReSaurus is stepping in to help meet the demand for Parappa merchandise. In addition to importing the already existing products, ReSaurus will also be producing their own Parappa and Um Lammy Jammer toys in the future.

Look for the Parappa and Sunny Flower Dancing Figures (MSRP$4.99); Parappa, Sunny Flower and Um Jammer Lammy 10" Collectible Dolls (MSRP$9.99); and a larger Um Jammer Lammy Collectible Doll with electronic guitar (price to be determined). Product will be on mass market shelves in October.

dcsigfigs.jpg -28K
Batman
Superman
The Joker
Knightfall Batman
Superman Blue
Captain Marvel

Possibly one of the most anticipated toylines of 1999 is finally coming to store shelves everywhere this September! DC Superheroes is the latest release from the Hasbro Signature Series which has previously showcased such properties as Alien Resurrection and Planet of the Apes. Now, the spotlight shines on the heroes and villains of the DC Universe in 2 separate assortments - 7 inch action figures (shown here) and 9 inch collectors figures with cloth costumes. While the 9 inch line will initially focus on the Silver Age with characters Green Arrow, Aquaman and Green Lantern, the 7 inch line explores the present and recent history of DC Comics.

Featured in the initial release are Superman, Batman, Superman Blue, Knightfall Batman, The Joker, and (making his first action figure appearance since Super Powers) Captain Marvel!

Each figure sports generous articulation, and comes with a unique base, and cutout backdrop to showcase each character.

There's rumors about that second series are in the works for both lines, but this has not been confirmed by Hasbro. Stay tuned to Raving Toy Maniac for more information as it becomes available!

First Look: Marvel History - Modern Age!

previewsblackbolt.jpg -25K boltclose.jpg -25K We've already told you about the Marvel History action figure line being done by Toy Biz, and offered exclusively to the direct market via Previews. We thought you'd like a look at the upcoming Black Bolt figure that is being released later this year as part of the Previews Exclusive Marvel History action figure line. Black Bolt, leader of the Inhumans, is part of the Modern Age assortment from the Marvel History line. Other characters in the assortment include Captain Britain, Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu, and Wolverine (as he appeared in his original 4-issue mini-series drawn by comics legend Frank Miller over a decade ago). You'll be able to see the rest of the figures soon at the Diamond Comic Distributors Previews website.

The figure shown here is a prototype, and there are still some minor changes to be made (such as the addition of Black Bolt's headpiece), but this will give Marvel fans a good idea of what the figure will ultimately look like, and how the line will be packaged.

Be sure to keep reading Raving Toy Maniac and Previews for the latest information on the Marvel History action figures!

Take Off, Hoser! Bob and Doug Action Figures, eh?

bobndoug.jpg 17 K

Proving that it is now possible for action figures to be made of just about anyone, McFarlane Toys has announced that they will be releasing figures of The McKenzie Brothers next year. Bob and Doug McKenzie were portrayed by Dave Thomas (no, not the Wendy's founder!) and Rick Moranis on SCTV, as well as in the 1983 feature film, Strange Brew. They also ran in several commercials for their most beloved product, beer.

Thomas and Moranis are re-teaming for a sequel to Strange Brew entitled Home Brew, which is scheduled to begin shooting on July 19, 1999 for a Spring 2000 release.

McFarlane Toys also announced that they are producing a series of figures based on The Hanson Brothers. Now, pick yourself off the floor. This isn't the teeny-bopper musical group Hanson, but rather Dave Hanson, Steve Carlson, and Jeff Carlson, hockey icons from the 1977 film Slap Shot. Each figure will come with a section of hockey rink, and the three pieces will fit together to form a large hockey diorama.
