One of Toy Biz' upcoming toylines that has already got fans rabid with anticipation is their Spider-Man Classic line. Since the demise of the previous Spider-Man line, fans of Marvel's famous Wall-Crawler have had precious little, toy wise, to appease them.
That will all come to an end in early 2001 when Toy Biz releases the first assortment in the Spider-Man Classic line, featuring Spider-Man, Spidey in his black costume, Man-Spider and the villainous Venom.
Toy Biz plans to use this line to keep Spider-Man fans (new and old) happy until the arrival of Sony's big-budget Spider-Man motion-picture starring Toby Maquire as everyone's favorite misunderstood super-hero, and directed by Sam Raimi.
Response to the first assortment, which was first unveiled to the public at the San Diego Comic Con back in July, has been so positive that work is already progressing on a second assortment, featuring the Rampaging Rhino, a Battle-Ravaged Spider-Man and two other figures with hopes of at least a third assortment beyond that. Fans can look forward to seeing pictures of the second assortment around the end of the year.
As previously reported, the Spider-Man figures in this line feature an amazing 30 points of articulation, including fingers and toes. These will truly be the coolest Spider-Man action figures ever on the market.
Each figure will also come with a sculpted base. For the Spidey figures and Venom the bases can either be placed flat, with the figure standing on the base or hung on the wall with the figure engaged in real wall-crawling action! How cool is that?
Also, each figure will include a 32-page comic book, reprinting a classic story spotlighting the character in question. For example, the Spider-Man figure will come with Amazing Spider-Man #301, which was the first issue featuring Spidey back in his traditional red and blue duds following his adventure with the alien symbiote costume that gave rise to Venom. The Venom figure will come with the final issue of the original Venom mini-series.
Judging from what has been shown so far, this new line looks to be a winner!
