Star Wars Episode 1 opens in theaters on May 21, 1999, so the majority of Hasbro's planned 3-inch Star Wars toys for this year are based on that upcoming movie. However, Lucasfilm and Hasbro are attempting to keep most details of the film a secret so that fan enthusiasm will build to an all-time high. Therefore, the Star Wars section of Hasbro's display at Toy Fair '99 was noticeably lacking in new toys. Already-released toys, like the Cantina Diorama with Sandtrooper, and the Classic Eight figures were given a lot of attention, with only a few new toys gracing the display.

Rumored action figures for Episode One are: Anakin Skywalker, Battle Droid, Boss Nass, C-3P0, Chancellor Velorum, Darth Maul, Darth Sidious, Gasgano and Pit Droid, Jar Jar Binks, Ki-Adi Mundi, Mace Windu (Hooded Cloak), Nute Gunray, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ody Mantrell, Otoga-222, Padm Naberrie, Queen Amidala, Qui-Gon Jinn, R2-D2, Ric Oli, Rune Haako, Senator Palpatine, Watto, Yoda
