2002
International Model & Hobby Expo:
JoyRide Studios
The JoyRide Studios division of Racing Champions Ertl is producing a line of action figures based on MechWarrior, with the first wave of figures due out in February 2003.
The action figures will range in size from 5.75 inches to 7.75 inches, and are made of plastic and die-cast metal. (We were allowed to hold the Legionnaire, which was 1.7 pounds!) Each figure comes with a poster, a scale pilot figurine, and stickers. The figures shown below are prototypes, so there may still be changes before production begins. Series One is Classic Mad Cat, Jupiter, and Legionnaire. (Each are two per case.) The retail price is in the $20 range.
In addition to the regular action figures, there will be "Mech Repair Bay Activity Kits," which are kits to build your own Mechs, including all the parts you need to assemble an entire Mech. These figures will be the same size as the assembled figures, and also include the poster, sticker, and pilot figurine. Series One is Jupiter, Classic Mad Cat, Forestry, and Legionnaire.
The action figures will initially only be sold in the specialty market, but the activity kits will be mass market (which means Wal-Mart).
