Each year at the Comic-Con, included in the many varied discussion panels are several panels relating to toys and collectibles. The list below reflects the toy and related panels for 2004, it is by no means a complete listing of all of the panels you might like to attend.

Thursday, July 22:
- 11:00�12:00 Game Design Workshop � Ever wanted to make your own tabletop game? Got an idea and want to see it published? Travis Chesney and Diego Guajardo of T-D-Us Gaming show you how to come up with a great idea and some of the dos and don'ts when creating a new game. - 11:00-12:00 Robotech � Harmony Gold USA staff members present an exclusive preview of the upcoming Robotech sequel Robotech�Shadow Force, along with previews of the new video game Robotech�Invasion and other Robotech merchandise products. - 12:00�1:00 Alien Racers: From Concept to Toys and Beyond � MGA Entertainment, creator of the worldwide doll phenomenon Bratz, enters into the boys action market with this exciting, original property featuring radio-controlled vehicles and an action figure line. The product will be packaged with comic books chronicling the adventures of the Alien Racers: Ultrox, G'rog, Skrash, Gnarl, and more. Members of the MGA Entertainment design and story team will be on hand to show the process of developing a brand, from early concept sketches and stories to production vehicles, action figures, comic books, and more. Panelists include Karl Altstaetter, lead character artist/comic book illustrator (creator of Deity from Image Comics); Kevin Bloomfield, product designer/concept development; and Gerimi Burleigh, lead writer/illustrator/concept development. - 3:00-4:30 Resin Casting and RTV Moldmaking � Jeff Broz of Matrix Enterprises has presented three previous intros to plastics and casting. This year's seminar advances into complex silicone mold design and casting techniques that should spark the casual interest of the working joes in the trenches. - 5:00-6:00 Toy Fare: The Toy Magazine � ToyFare has made a name for itself as the #1 source of toy news and humor, thanks to its in-depth reporting and the ever-popular "Twisted ToyFare Theatre" comic strip. Magazine staff will be on hand to answer questions about the production of the magazine and to make rude noises with their hands. Room 7A
- 6:00-7:00 State of the Action Figure Industry � Action figure sales and marketing have changed radically since the days of walking down to your local discount stores and picking up your favorite MEGO or new Star Wars figure. The comics direct market, mail order, and the Internet have all changed where and how you can find your favorite toys. Does Wal-Mart control what characters get made? Can a license without a media tie-in make it in today�s crowded market? Is the collectors market making a difference or is it still �all about the kids�? Find out the answers to these questions and more from a diverse group of panelists from different companies all addressing these issues. What does the future hold for your favorite line? Toy industry professionals will give you all the behind-the-scenes stories about your favorite toy lines. Learn inside design, sculpting, and painting secrets used in the creative process at McFarlane Toys. - 2:00-3:00 Dreamwave Transformers: The Nostalgia Keeps Going! � Artist Pat Lee, along with writers James McDonough and Adam Patyk, the team behind Generation One, Micromasters, Transformers/G.I. Joe and more, are here to share their ideas and plans for Fall 2004, bringing you the inside scoop and a look into the minds behind the creators of everything that is Transformers in this new millennium. - 4:30-6:00 The STARRO Gathering � STARRO is a group devoted to people who customize action figures, primarily based on comic books. New and/or peripheral characters often don't get molded into plastic, so the members of STARRO create them. Bring your figures to share and learn from the panel what works and what doesn't. Panelists include Rich Medley, David Ramsay, Charlie Jackam, Scott Rogers, Ray H, and Geoff Beckett. Room 1A
- 6:00-7:00 Under the Knife: An Action Figure Sculpting Discussion � Action figure sculpting is pop art that is just coming into the spotlight. In this discussion with some of the industry�s top sculptors you will discover the path that led them to many a fanboy�s dream job. Find out what tools and materials they use and where laser scanning ends and the sculptor takes over. Panelists will discuss mold making and painting, reveal their favorites, and talk about which figures they would like another crack at.
