LEGO Company Travels to an Outer Dimension with New Line of GALIDOR(TM) Action Figures --Toy Maker to Debut in New Toy Category, Retail Aisle

NEW YORK - The LEGO Company, one of the world's leading creative brands for families with children, today unveils a revolutionary line of action figures based on the new television series, GALIDOR^(TM): Defenders of the Outer Dimension. GALIDOR marks the first time the Company will produce and market true action figures for children ages 4 and up, and signifies a diversification of product portfolio that positions the LEGO Company for growth outside of the construction toy category.

GALIDOR action figures are part of a new organic building system, giving children the power to create characters and vehicles that are based on the television series and limited only by their imaginations. Featuring numerous points of articulation and 360 rotational abilities, the figures have interchangeable parts and limbs that can be built, combined and rebuilt--a process called "glinching"--to reflect the fantastic ability series characters have to embody the limbs of others to overcome obstacles and protect friends from danger.

Capitalizing on a unique ability to innovate in a new category, the LEGO Company's move into the action figure aisle marks an important first for the Company in its growth toward becoming the number-one creative brand for families with children.

The combination of LEGO and action figures is predicated by the 2001 blockbuster success of BIONICLE(TM), a line of collectible, constructible action heroes accompanied by a rich story. BIONICLE continuously ranked at the top of the sales charts through the fall and holiday seasons, and was recognized by retailers and the media as one of the hottest toys of 2001.

"We're thrilled to be working with CinGroupe on Tommy Lynch's GALIDOR story," says Andrew Black, president of LEGO Americas. "The show has come together beautifully and will have strong appeal to children. Our ability to mirror the key features of the series in action figure form not only is exciting - it also allows us to innovate in a new category by translating LEGO values of creative, imagination and fun into a new way to play."

Twelve figures make up the new assortment, including the series' two heroes, Nick Bluetooth and Allegra Zane, the evil tyrant, Gorm, and a trio of mystical creatures: Jens, Euripides, and Nepol. Ranging in price from $9.99 to $59.99, the figures will be available in July with additions to the line in late summer and fall.

Through partnership with Canadian entertainment company, CinGroupe, the LEGO Company acquired global merchandising rights to the television series, naming itself the master toy and software licenses last fall. To extend the GALIDOR property beyond these categories, United Media will license property rights to other manufacturers to produce merchandise in other relevant children's categories.

GALIDOR: Defenders of the Outer Dimension is a stunning blend of reality and fantasy that tells a stirring tale about coming-of-age, discovering one's heritage and experiencing the greatest adventure of all--living. Inspired by characters created by writer-creator-executive producer Tommy Lynch (Caitlin's Way and Just Deal), the series combines live action with computer-generated animation, 3D backgrounds and riveting special effects to produce a show unlike any other in children's television programming.

The series chronicles the adventures of Nicholas, whose life is turned upside down when he travels to the Outer Dimension, discovers his powers and learns he must defend the Outer Dimension from the evil tyrant, Gorm. With his best friend Allegra Zane at his side, Nicholas sets out on a mythical quest that takes him to new worlds inhabited by a host of mystical creatures.

GALIDOR: Defenders of the Outer Dimension is a CinGroupe production. The series airs on Fox Kids Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m. EST in the United States and Wednesdays at 7 :00 p.m. EST on YTV in Canada. The series will be distributed worldwide by CinGroupe and Columbia TriStar Television International.
