DC Direct
DC Direct products were shown in the Diamond Showroom, and to help promote the new Batman, they had Jim Lee on hand during the Diamond reception. Jim was a perfect gentleman and even drew sketches for all who asked during the party, and a new Jim Lee inspired statue was shown during the same party.
The Kingdom Come prototypes were all shown together, and they will be released in two waves of four figures (single boxed). Wave one is due in July and will have Wonder Woman, Superman, Hawkman and Green Lantern. Series Two will follow up in September with Batman, Shazam (aka Captain Marvel), Red Robin and Kid Flash.
There was also a showing of the new JLA figures based on more recent versions of the classic characters. The figures will be released in October with Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Flash. They also showed the Classic Teen Titans box set, due for August release. The Silver Age Batgirl and Joker two pack will be released in October.
Something new is a series of 'mini-maquettes' based on the animated JLA show. These minis are around five and a half inches tall (roughly the same as the Mattel JLA figures). Eight were shown, and the releases will be staggered over the next two years. Wonder Woman is first in September, followed by Superman in October. November will be the Martian Manhunter, with December's release Green Lantern. The following four are due in 2004 - Hawkgirl, Flash, Batman and Aquaman.
The Justice League wall plaques will continue with Flash in August, Green Lantern in September and Superman in December.
There was a new box set for the Pocket Super Heroes line with the JLA inside. Included with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and a miniature Atom figure. This set is scheduled for release in October.
The Super Friends line continues with more 2-packs. Shown at Toy Fair were Wonder Woman & Cheetah w/ Invisible Jet (April 30, 2003), Superman & Lex Luthor w/ Hall of Doom (April 2, 2003), Green Lantern & Sinestro w/ the Hall of Justice (May 7, 2003), Aquaman & Black Manta w/ Manta's submarine (May 21, 2003) and two new sets.
