GOLD GLOVE CENTER FIELDER TORII HUNTER BATS LEADOFF FOR THE AWARD WINING MLB SHOWDOWN 2003 SPORTS CARD GAME
January 21, 2003 (Renton, WA.) Wizards of the Coast, Inc., developer of game-based entertainment products and a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc., announced today plans to feature All Star center fielder and two-time Gold Glove recipient, Torii Hunter of the Minnesota Twins on marketing items related to the MLBTM SHOWDOWN TM 2003 sports card game. The MLB SHOWDOWN 2003 sports card game will be available in retail locations nationwide beginning in early March.
From the cozy confines of the Metrodome to the many stadiums in-between, Hunter has electrified fans with his amazing defensive plays and he now joins an elite list of MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL players who have represented the MLB SHOWDOWN Sports brand for Wizards of the Coast. The list includes standouts Luis Gonzalez, Shawn Green, Chipper Jones, Gary Sheffield, and Manny Ramirez.
This past year, Hunter batted .289 with 29 home runs and 94 RBIs, all career highs, and earned his second straight Rawlings Gold Glove Award for his defensive prowess. For his career, Hunter has played in 537 games, amassed 505 hits, 101 doubles, 70 home runs, 267 RBIs, 110 base-on-balls, and has scored 267 times. In addition, in 2001, Torii Hunter was rated Best Defensive Outfielder in the American League by Baseball America.
The MLB SHOWDOWN sports card game offers players an immersive baseball experience consisting of fun and challenging gameplay while giving baseball fans a chance to showoff and increase their baseball knowledge. The game combines the strategy of baseball with the collectability of sports cards and the competition of fantasy baseball. Players of all ages and skill levels can go card-to-card against other MLB SHOWDOWN players in official tournaments held throughout the United States. There are currently hundreds of officially ranked MLB SHOWDOWN players across the country, with over 400 tournaments held since the game's inception in 2000.
