Mattel:
Masters of the Universe
The Masters of the Universe revival continues in 2003, with more regular and deluxe action figures, another Castle Grayskull, and more playsets.
The new action figures for 2003 will include (this list is not everything that is planned): Martial Arts He-Man, Prince Adam, Power Gauntlet Man-At-Arms, Sy-Klone, Buzz-Off, Zodak, Roboto, Stealth Armor Stratos, Whiplash, Two Bad, and Evil-Lyn. A new version of He-Man has been referred to as both Arctic He-Man and Ice Armor He-Man, and the new version of Skeletor has been called both Fire Armor Skeletor and Inferno Skeletor.
The new Castle Grayskull is different from the 2002 version in that the sounds and electronic features are no longer activated by the electronic chips in the feet of the action figures. Our understanding of the new Castle is that you'll be able to activate the sounds and features on your own at the press of a button. (At Toy Fair, Mattel was not certain if future action figures would have the chips so that they could interact with the 2002 Grayskull.) The new Castle will be available in July 2003, with a suggested retail price of around $53.99 USD.
Two other playsets will also be available in July 2003: the Mutant Slime Pit Playset and the Battle Station Playset. The Mutant Slime Pit comes with an exclusive He-Man figure, the necessary Slime, and an exploding mutant warrior figure. It will retail for about $26.99. The Battle Station Playset has two levels and includes a drawbridge, battering ram, catapult, and sige tower missile launcher, all for around $14.99.
The Dragon Walker "vehicle" has stomping action and missile launchers. It will be available in July 2003 for about $19.99 and requires three AA batteries which are not included.
The Masters of the Universe Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Game (not pictured here) features He-Man and Skeletor battling to knock each other off of Castle Grayskull. The Game should be in stores in July 2003 for about $10.99.
