This was Toy Biz's first foray into the 6" scale in the X-Men line. We were treated to two more Age of Apocalypse figures: Sugar Man and Dark Beast. The choice of Beast is interesting considering that an Age of Apocalypse Beast was included in the Shattershot series. The Mutant Monsters version was more faithful to the comic concept of ole Hank during the AoA. All the figures came with a battery operated sound feature and a manually operated action feature (for example, Sugar Man open his mouth slightly and cackled when a level on his back was pressed). The new scale was a bit problematic for many collectors. Whereas Wolverine is supposed to be of diminuitive stature, this version towers over even the largest of the 5" scale figures. Sugar Man is the only figure that could be conceptualized as that big in comparison with the 5" scale figures. The others stick out like sore thumbs in displays. Although no official sales figures are available, the relative abundance of these figures (even at clearance prices) would seem to indicate that the buying public didn't take to the 6" scale for the X-Men line.
