SEATTLE -- June 27, 2002 -- WizKids (www.wizkidsgames.com) announces that their new collectable miniatures game, Marvel (TM) HeroClix (TM): Infinity Challenge is off to an extremely strong start, according to internal sales data.
More than 1.3 million units were sold during its first month on store shelves, making it one of the most successful games to launch this summer. More than 6 million miniature figures have been sold worldwide. Marvel HeroClix launched to the gaming public on May 1, 2002.
"Marvel is easily one of the hottest brands right now due to the success of the Spider-Man movie. Our high pre-launch expectations for Marvel HeroClix have been greatly exceeded," said Jordan Weisman, WizKids founder and CEO. "If sell-through and re-orders are any indication, Marvel HeroClix: Infinity Challenge is in the position to be the hottest selling game this summer. Many retailers sold out of their inventory within days of delivery. We're pulling out all the stops just to keep up with demand."
Developed by WizKids, LLC, Marvel HeroClix: Infinity Challenge features 150 different Marvel Comics' characters in the complete collection. It's available in Starter Sets that contain eight random Marvel Comics miniatures and everything needed to play for $19.95, and people can add to their HeroClix collection with Booster Packs that contain four miniatures for $6.95. This month, WizKids has also released a "Premier Edition" of the game, which contains 10 pre-selected miniatures for $29.95.
"Marvel HeroClix goes beyond all miniature and collectable games: it is a phenomenon unto itself," Weisman continued. "Part of the allure of the game is that players can get together with their friends at local retail stores and play in our "Approved Play" events. It becomes a social activity for both players and fans."
