Toy Vault Readies Release of Evil Barrow-Wight
|
As fans of author J.R.R. Tolkien continue to be excited by all the activity surrounding The Lord of the Rings, and the movie trilogy currently in production in New Zealand, Toy Vault announces plans to add the Barrow-Wight to their successful Middle Earth Toys series. Toy Vault will release three versions of the villainous creature. The Barrow Wight is a 6" figure featuring eleven points of articulation; a colored plastic gem is implanted in the skull of the figure so that light is reflected through the eyes. "The Barrow-Wights are some of the best characters in the series," said Jon Huston, creative director of Toy Vault. "The wights in Middle Earth had tremendous powers. They were able to affect the minds hobbits and humans, affect the weather, and cast spells to achieve their ends. When Frodo met the wight, Gandalf felt that moment was more dangerous than when Frodo met the Nazgul on Weathertop." The Barrow-Wights were evil spirits from Angmar who infested the great barrows. The wights tried to entrap people in the barrows and sacrifice them. Frodo and his friends were caught by the Barrow-Wights in the Lord of the Rings but they managed to escape with the help of Tom Bombadil. As always, with the creation of a new figure, the creative staff at Toy Vault goes through an extensive series of design sketches and control art before ever beginning to sculpt. Character descriptions from the original novels by J.R.R. Tolkien are thoroughly researched and used as the basis for the design sketches. - The Barrow-Wight ($12.95 SRP) comes with a shield and a broad sword. This is the version that will be released through the mass market (Toys R Us, etc).
- The Evil Spirit of Angmar ($14.95 SRP) comes with a broad sword, a bejewled chest, and a goblet. This is the version that will be available through the specialty and direct market stores only.
- The Nocturnal Barrow-Wight ($12.95 SRP) comes with a shield, a dagger, and a goblet. This is the version that will be available exclusively through Diamond Comic Distributors.
