TEMPE, Ariz., September 15, 2004 -- Two years of planning culminate on Saturday, Oct. 16 as McFarlane Toys celebrates the Grand Opening of its first retail store. The McFarlane Toys Store is located at 8945 S. Harl, Suite 112 in Tempe, Ariz., just one block east of the I-10 freeway. The hours for the grand opening are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
For the fans and collectors, this is a once in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet three of the most influential and creative minds behind the McFarlane's action figure lines and comic books. McFarlane Toys founder and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, Spawn comic book artist Greg Capullo and McFarlane Toys' chief toy designer Ed Frank, will make their first-ever appearance together for one day only at the McFarlane Toys Store. A free autograph session will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fans are invited to have two items of their choice autographed by each of the artists. (No purchase necessary.)
The doors open at 8 a.m. for the official Grand Opening, and the celebration includes a one day sale on featured action figure products, free comics and stickers, a free special commemorative mini-poster, autograph signings, special giveaways, tours of the new McFarlane showroom, and much more! The special commemorative mini-poster will feature the art and design work from all three of the internationally awarding-winning artists.
The facility will serve a variety of functions, a retail operation featuring McFarlane Toys' hard-to-find figures and newly released lines, a showroom with custom-built sets showcasing rare prototypes of upcoming toy lines including Spawn, sports, monsters, music, and film figures. The showroom walls are decorated with a wide array of memorabilia -- game-worn jerseys, game-used sports equipment and memorabilia from movie sets, and many items straight from Todd McFarlane's personal collection.
It is one of the most visually stunning retail outlets ever created for McFarlane Toys. Plasma TVs displaying images of Spawn, awards, original artwork and other McFarlane related videos adorn the walls.
