Living Toyz Elfquest Figures: Updated Information

elfquestmovieposter.jpg - 20498 BytesLiving Toyz and Warp Graphics displayed the upcoming Elfquest action figure line at the recent Comic Con International held in San Diego. This has been a highly anticipated line by the legions of Elfquest fans who have been looking for more merchandise based on the long-running fantasy comic series.

Elfquest, the comic, began back in 1978. The comic was self-published by creators Richard and Wendy Pini and immediately developed a rabid fan following. The original Elfquest tale ran for 20 issues from 1978 to 1984. Additional tales followed, and the line eventually expanded into several related books (and later back down to a single title). Most issues of Elfquest are currently available in the Readers Collection series of trade paperbacks available at your local bookstore and comic book specialty store. If you've never read Elfquest you should definitely check it out.

There is currently an Elfquest animated movie in production, and planned for release in 2002. The movie promises to be extremlely faithful to the comic, and series artist (and co-creator) Wendy Pini has contributed many of the character designs for the film. The movie is being produced by Craig Miller and Marv Wolfman's Wolfmill Entertainment.

The first series of action figures, based on the original comic, are tentatively scheduled for a December release, initially in comic stores and specialty markets. A mass market release isn't out of the question, but both Living Toyz and Warp Graphics want to handle the property with care. As previously reported on RTM the first series of figures consists of Cutter, and his wolf Nightrunner (may be sold as a two-pack), Leetah, Rayek, Tyldak and Picknose the Troll.

A second series is in the very early stages of development. The most likely candidates for series 2, at this point, look to be Skywise (and his wolf mount), the monstrous Madcoil and the evil, but beautiful Winnowill.

Wolfmill Entertainment has supplied RTM with these new images of the action figures. Enjoy!
