The double paged spread from Avengers #72 showing the 1st
appearance of the Zodiac Cartel
Aquarius and Aries by Adam Hammond of Bad Black Cat Customs
www.badblackcatcustoms.com
Aires: Archangel body (arms, torso and legs) with a
hollowed out Quark head and Cyclops chin (head from Morph, easier for cutting
out the chin. Horns and ramhead to neck blending are milliput.
Insignia on chest is decoupaged on. Cape is from prowler.
Aquarius: Comcast head, XMen Savage Land Joseph arms, Batman (punching?) torso,
Gambit legs. Milliput to fill in some of the lower torso.
Virgo and Libra by David Harris
[email protected]
Virgo: I hated how Virgo was going whilst I was making
her. I was convinced that she was going to look absolutely awful.
However, I am quite pleased with how she turned out! Virgo was made from a
Jean Grey figure, with the hair removed and the feet from a Rogue figure.
The belt and bangles are rubber bands. The hair and dress were sculpted
on. It's the first time I've sculpted a dress, and I did another
immediately after. I shamelessly used Virgo for practice. Poor lass.
Libra: Libra was a simple one, clearly. The body was a Spiderman,
the head and hands came from a Superman. The blindfold is a rubberband.
Libra is the opposite of Virgo, insofar as I thought he was going fine, but I
don't like the finished product. You can't really make out his symbol.
I had real trouble putting that on. The figure is just meh.
Gemini and Saggitarius by Ken of Mattman's Custom Figures
www.mattmansfigures.homestead.com
Gemini is a basic Human Torch with a modified face (with Miliput, a styrene
belt, and different hands from a spare hands bin.
Sagittarius is a spare head blended with Wolverine hair on
top of a modified Doc Samson base body. The shoulder pads are toothpaste tube.
Taurus and Capricorn by Ken of Mattman's Custom Figures
www.mattmansfigures.homestead.com
Taurus is a toy PVC bull head modified with Sculpey-flex
horns on a Beast body. The wristlets are vinyl and Miliput. The feet are
Miliput
modifications.
Capricorn a Riddler head on a Tarantula body with Miliput
blending of attached vinyl and styrene additions.
Scorpio and Leo by Andy Rallis
[email protected]
Scorpio : Black
Bolt with features dremeled down, new details added with Milliput; the
outstretched arms were a perfect match for a riding a motorcycle.
Zodiac key : scrap metal
Scorpio motorcycle:
A Hot Zone toy motorcycle as a frame; front grill was sculpted from scratch with
super sculpey, milliput, wire mesh ;
engine and tailpipe details added from
a Revel kit.
Leo : Sasquatch torso
and legs; Aslan forelimbs, mane, jaws, head, tail; fodder for human head &
hands. Painted with Testors flat tan, washed with flat black.
Cancer and Pisces by Al's Action Figures
www.alsactionfigures.com
Cancer is an Alpha Flight Guardian figure (Toyfare mail in
exclusive) with kneadatite for his antennae, claws and head. I debated
whether or not to add his goofy reversed "D" logo, but in the interest of 1st
appearance accuracy it had to stay.
Pisces is a Street Fighter vs. X-Men Akuma body with a
Fantastic Four Triton head. Kneadatite for his scales and cut toothpaste
tube for his arm and leg fins. The punching action that was present in the
Akuma figure still works here.
Our theme was originally titled "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?"
The brother in question refers to
Brother Voodoo of the now defunct plasticknights.com. He was a prolific Marvel 5" customizer
who seems to have all but disappeared the last few years. His last
publicly shown customs was a CustomCon 12 entry of a re-imagined Zodiac Cartel. One of the reasons for
our Zodiac theme was to pay a small
tribute to a genuinely nice guy and a talented customizer.
