CARLSBAD, Calif., Dec. 10 -- Officials at LEGOLAND(R) California theme park are taking extra steps to advise the public of their annual holiday fireworks show in an effort to prevent the show's sound effects from causing any unnecessary concern. The fireworks are part of a holiday show that can be seen at the Carlsbad theme park beginning Dec. 15 and running through New Year's Day. The 18-minute show begins around 5:45 nightly, including two shows on New Year's Eve at 6 p.m. and Midnight.
"We have been working with the Carlsbad Fire Department to notify our neighbors of the dates of the fireworks celebration so that when the sounds of the show are heard overhead, everyone will know that there is good news outside," said Courtney Simmons, spokesperson. "In light of recent world events, we all wanted to take the extra steps to avoid unnecessary alarm and subsequent calls to 9-1-1."
In addition to contacting the news media, LEGOLAND California has purchased advertisements regarding the fireworks show in local newspapers, sent letters to city leaders and distributed Public Service Announcements to San Diego radio stations.
The pyrotechnics are just one aspect of the Park's holiday program, which also includes music, patriotism and even snow.
"'Light the Night' features a spectacular celebration of fireworks, music, lights and story telling, which takes place in the heart of the Park's Miniland," said Simmons. "The show begins in a darkened Miniland with the Legend of the Lamplighter, who comes to the rescue in a blackout. As the story unfolds, the lights ceremoniously brighten the five different regions of Miniland including a flurry of snow and a fanfare of patriotic fireworks painting the night sky above the Park. New this year, the show also features a red, white and blue patriotic tribute to American heroes."
LEGOLAND California is a 128-acre family theme park dedicated to families with children between the ages of 3 and 12. Just like with LEGO toys, kids are the ones who make things happen at the Park. They drive, pedal, squirt, climb, jump, stomp, slide, steer, pull, click, push, gallop, laugh, build and program their way through more than 40 rides and attractions. There are only two other LEGOLAND parks in the world -- LEGOLAND(R) Billund in Denmark, and LEGOLAND(R) Windsor outside of London. A fourth LEGOLAND is under construction near Gunzburg, Germany, and is scheduled to open in 2002.
