ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 28 -- Action Products International Inc., a leading specialty toy company, announces a licensing agreement with PorchLight Entertainment to create wooden and diecast toys based on the award-winning children's television series, JAY JAY THE JET PLANE(TM).
As part of the long-term agreement, Action Products will create and distribute a Jay Jay The Jet Plane Wooden Adventure System(TM) consisting of wooden airplane characters, buildings, Destination playsets, and Cloud Track(TM). The system, presented to highly favorable reviews at the International Toy Fair Feb. 10-14 in New York, will be distributed through toy stores including Zany Brainy and Learning Express, book and gift stores, airplane museums, airport gift shops, and other quality stores.
Designed for use on the play tables popularized by the specialty toy industry, the Jay Jay The Jet Plane Wooden Adventure System(TM) combines the best of proven wooden play systems with a sprinkling of modern technology, including lights, sounds, and "character recognition." The character recognition system will identify each airplane as they touch down on the playset and activate a voice clip unique to each character. The initial flight of Jay Jay toys, scheduled to arrive in stores in summer 2002, will consist of the show's most popular characters, along with a Tarrytown Airport(TM) playset complete with wooden buildings. Additional characters, buildings, and Destinations are scheduled for release later in the year.
Jay Jay The Jet Plane(TM), created by David Michel and Deborah Michel, airs on PBS and PBS Kids. The show follows the adventures of Jay Jay(TM) and his airplane friends as they take off in search of fun and excitement in and around the storybook land of Tarrytown, a place "where imagination takes flight(TM)." In each episode, Jay Jay(TM) and his friends discover the wonders of science and nature, and also come to understand what it means to be a child.
Stefanie Tier Friedman, PorchLight's Vice President of Consumer Products said, "Action Products, with its innovative and educational playsets, is the perfect fit for Jay Jay and all his Tarrytown friends. They have embraced Jay Jay with great enthusiasm and have presented us with many exciting concepts to support the continually expanding Jay Jay brand."
Ron Kaplan, CEO and Chairman of Action Products said, "We are thrilled to welcome Jay Jay The Jet Plane into the Action Products family of brands to educate and entertain. The Jay Jay The Jet Plane Wooden Adventure System was incredibly well-received at Toy Fair, and we expect it to be a big hit for retailers this year."
