RYE BROOK, N.Y., March 12 -- Bobblehead dolls continue to create quite a commotion at sporting events around the country. For example, when fans learn that a team is giving away bobblehead dolls to the first few thousand fans through the turnstyle, they often camp outside the stadium for hours to ensure they get their hands on one.
Now, for the first time ever, bobblehead fans can add 10 new dolls to their collection simply by visiting the cereal aisle at their favorite supermarket. At the start of the 2002 baseball season, Post(R) Cereals -- the Official Cereal of Major League Baseball(R) -- will place more than 16 million Major League Baseball(R) player mini-bobblehead dolls inside specially-marked packages of nine popular Post Cereal brands.
Participating brands include Alpha Bits(R), Cocoa Pebbles(R), Fruity Pebbles(R), Golden Crisp(R), Honey Comb(R), Marshmallow Alpha Bits(R), Oreo O's(R), Post(R) Premium Raisin Bran and Waffle Crisp(R).
Beginning in April, specially-marked boxes will contain one of the following 3-inch tall bobblehead dolls for a limited time:
American League- Pedro Martinez, Boston Red Sox
- Jason Giambi, NY Yankees
- Bernie Williams, NY Yankees
- Ichiro Suzuki, Seattle Mariners
- Alex Rodriguez, Texas Rangers
National League
- Luis Gonzalez, Arizona Diamondbacks
- Chipper Jones, Atlanta Braves
- Sammy Sosa, Chicago Cubs
- Jeff Bagwell, Houston Astros
- Mike Piazza, NY Mets
Bobblehead dolls, which are known for their oversized heads that shake and nod, have been around since the 1950s, but have just recently become exceedingly popular. Over the past few years, it's become a trend to create sports celebrities, Hall of Fame legends, and even team mascots into bobblehead dolls.
Ideal for the ultimate enthusiast, Post is also offering generic Major League Baseball(R) bobblehead dolls in an All-Star Dual pack. In the specially-marked package, fans will receive one American League bobblehead doll in Honey Comb cereal and a National League doll in Fruity Pebbles cereal.
Collectors can display their miniature bobblehead dolls on collector's stand, available by mail (for $2.99, includes S&H), with two Post Cereal proofs-of-purchase. See specially marked boxes for details.
In addition to offering bobblehead dolls, Post Cereals will continue to offer Topps(R) Major League Baseball(R) cards in other specially marked boxes.
In 2002, all 30 Major League Baseball(R) teams will be represented in the set of offered cards.
Kids can visit Postopia.com and play "Ultimate Baseball," an interactive game where they can create their own players with special powers and abilities. Kids also have a chance to win great prizes, such as Major League Baseball(R) online gift certificates.
Post is one of the nation's leading cereal companies, making quality cereals for more than 100 years.
