Dragon Models Limited, the premiere leader in scale action figures, is proud to announce the recruitment of the 12" (1:6 scale) Commander Rich Blankenship of the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron... or, as you probably know them, the "Blue Angels."
Commander Blankenship is the team commander and flies the Number One slot, with the callsign "Boss." Of course he is only the Boss of the 1:6 scale Blue Angels, but he's a lot easier to display on a collector's shelf. Released in late April, Commander Blankenship, or "Rich" as he is also known, is currently retailing for $34.99 (USD).
The mission of the Blue Angels is to enhance Navy and Marine Corps recruiting and to represent the naval service to the civilian community, its elected leadership and foreign nations. Since 1946 the Blue Angels have served as positive role models and goodwill ambassadors and have performed for more than 350 million people. Each Blue Angels pilot must have a minimum of 1,350 tactical jet flight hours and aircraft carrier qualifications. To qualify for the "Boss" slot pilots have an additional 1,750 tactical jet flight hours and must have commanded a tactical jet squadron.
The name "Blue Angels" is not a reference to the Navy colors as one might think, but rather the name originated during a trip by the original team to New York in 1946. A member of the team came across the name of the city's famous Blue Angel nightclub in The New Yorker and the rest is history!
