DOGNY Plush Toys Benefit Rescue Dogs

GREEN BAY, Wis., Sept. 3 -- To honor the canine heroes of September 11 and their human counterparts, ShopKo has joined a special project entitled DOGNY(TM), in partnership with Hartz Mountain Corporation. Beginning this week, the sale of limited edition "Help a Hero" DOGNY(TM) dog toys will benefit The Animal Recovery Corporation Canine Support and Relief Fund, a non-profit organization that provides training to rescue dogs and their handlers.

Three different styles of the "Help a Hero" dog toy have been created to commemorate the breeds (Bloodhound, German Shepherd and Golden Retriever) used most often in search and rescue activities. Each canine hero comes with a removable red, white and blue bandanna and an embroidered DOGNY(TM) logo. The dog toys are being sold for $5.99 at all ShopKo stores, with $2.00 from each sale benefiting the rescue dog fund. The toys, designed by Hartz Mountain Corporation, are great for pets as well as children.

"We all saw how much the search and rescue dogs did for the recovery efforts in the aftermath of September 11. It is our pleasure to support DOGNY(TM) and be able to give back to these magnificent animals and their handlers what they give to our country," said Terry McDonald, ShopKo senior vice president, marketing and communications.

ShopKo Stores, Inc., a Fortune 500 company headquartered in Green Bay, Wis., operates 365 retail stores in 23 states, primarily in the Midwest, Western Mountain and Pacific Northwest regions.
