NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman (l) with LEGO Americas president, Andrew Black (r)ENFIELD, Conn., Jan. 24 -- LEGO Company today announces one of only two existing scale replicas of the famous Stanley Cup is missing since the close of the annual Super Show that took place in Las Vegas earlier this week. The model was on display to promote the new line of LEGO® NHL Hockey sets at the industry's largest sports equipment show.
Originally built for LEGO Americas president, Andrew Black, to give as a gift to NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, the Cup was received with great enthusiasm and now resides in Commissioner Bettman's office. A second model, now missing, was built to tour the country and is scheduled to appear next week at the NHL All-Star Block Party in Sunrise, Florida.
"It's nice to see such enthusiasm for this LEGO model. The fact that it has gone missing is understandable, as it bears stunning resemblance to the real thing," says Black. "Given that the LEGO Brand makes its debut at the NHL All-Star Block Party next week, we're hoping to convince Commissioner Bettman to let us borrow his personal Cup so that others may enjoy viewing it."
The LEGO Stanley Cup was constructed piece-by-piece from nearly 6,000 LEGO bricks in the Enfield, Connecticut model shop. The Company now is offering a reward of NHL tickets and an assortment of the new LEGO Hockey product line to the person who finds and returns the model.
