Transformers Convention: Hasbro
|
July 2003 - Hasbro had many of their new Transformers toys on display at the 2003 Official Transformers Collectors Convention.
In addition to the booth display, Hasbro also held a panel at the convention, during which they answered several fan questions and offered an advance look at the future of the Transformers product line. A few key points: - The 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime will not include a trailer, but will have light-up features, die-cast parts, and rubber wheels. A precise suggested retail price was not given, although the $75 USD price range was mentioned. Prime will be available initially at Toys'R'Us stores, and then at other stores.
- Transformers Energon will take place ten years after the story line for Transformers Armada.
- The G1 video game will be released in Japan, but it is not known if or when it will be released in the United States.
- There will be no re-issue of the G1 Megatron in the United States - the reason given is that toy standards are different now than they were 20 years ago, and that selling a toy which in the package appears to be a gun is not a wise idea in today's marketplace.
- Transformers Alternators will not have a storyline of their own.
- Hasbro and Takara are working with several major car manufacturers to obtain licenses for the Transformers Alternators - the first two were shown at the convention, a Subaru and a Dodge Viper.
- The Transformers Alternators will be 1:24 scale and will have a suggested retail price of about $20.
