LOS ANGELES, March 11, 2004 - Equity Marketing, Inc. and Warner Bros. Consumer Products have renewed their global licensing agreement for Scooby-Doo(TM), the beloved animated Great Dane and his mystery-solving friends.
Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, Equity Marketing will continue to serve as the Scooby-Doo master toy licensee. The Company has been granted distribution rights in the U.S., Canada and other international regions. Equity Marketing currently designs and produces an assortment of Scooby-Doo action figures, playsets and basic and feature plush, which are sold through mass market and specialty retailers.
The agreement includes a master license from Warner Bros. Consumer Products to design, produce and market toys based on Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming live-action comedy adventure, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, which is a sequel to the hit feature film, Scooby-Doo, which was released in 2002.
As a core franchise property, the animated series Scooby Doo, Where Are You? is still one of the most popular programs on Cartoon Network, and all new episodes of What's New Scooby Doo? currently air on the Kids' WB! and on Cartoon Network. The television shows create sustainable demand for this classic brand.
"The Scooby-Doo brand continues to be a hit with consumers, and we are pleased to extend our long-term licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products," said Mark Siegel, Equity Marketing's Vice President of Consumer Products Marketing. "With the support it receives from the studio and consistent exposure on television, we expect the Scooby-Doo line to do well this year and beyond, especially given the scheduled March 26 theatrical release of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed and the subsequent home video launch."
Equity Marketing recently introduced an expanded line of Scooby-Doo toys at International Toy Fair in February 2004, including the Mystery Machine Adventure Playset and Scooby Snacks Maker. Broadening the line into the popular food/toy category, Scooby Snacks Maker gives children a fun opportunity to make and eat their own Scooby snacks.
Added Siegel, "Our licensing agreement for Scooby-Doo is one example of the value-added we bring to our clients through our Consumer Products division. We are able to leverage the Scooby-Doo brand across multiple channels. In addition to our full line of toys, the upcoming Burger King(R) Kids Meal promotion kicking off in March 2004, in support of the movie release, will feature a set of premium toys inspired by the live-action film and include a coupon for use with the purchase of any Equity Marketing Scooby-Doo toy in retail stores nationwide."
