Chairman and CEO Alan G. Hassenfeld announced today the promotion of four key senior executives, including the appointment of current Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Alfred J. Verrecchia to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer.

Mr. Hassenfeld also announced that:

  • George Volanakis, the Company's Senior Vice President, International, has been promoted to Executive Vice President, with responsibility for the U.S. Toy Group and International, reporting to Mr. Verrecchia.

  • Brian Goldner, who joined Hasbro last March from Bandai as COO of Tiger, has been promoted to head up the U.S. Toy Group, which includes all of Hasbro's U.S. Toy divisions and brands, including OddzOn and Larami, reporting to Mr. Volanakis.

  • In addition, David Medhurst, currently Managing Director for Tiger International , has been promoted to Tiger COO, reporting to its CEO, Roger Shiffman.
"Hasbro is strong by so many measures, including our unmatched brand portfolio and management depth," said Mr. Hassenfeld. "Today's moves only make us stronger and more focused on growing Hasbro profitably into the future."

"Al Verrecchia is one of the best and most experienced executives in our industry, and his appointment to President and COO is the natural next step for an individual who has contributed so much in his 35 years at Hasbro," said Mr. Hassenfeld.

Mr. Verrecchia, 57, has served in a variety of senior management positions since joining the Company in 1965, leading up to his most recent position as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. David Hargreaves will continue as Hasbro's Deputy CFO reporting to Mr. Verrecchia.

George Volanakis, 52, joined Hasbro as head of European marketing and sales in March of 1998 from The Ertl Co., Inc., where he was the Company's CEO. Prior to his service at Ertl, Mr. Volanakis was a Vice President of Marketing for Mattel, Inc. Mr. Volanakis began his career at the Milton Bradley Company, where he held various positions, including President and Chief Operating Officer of its Playskool division. Hasbro acquired the Milton Bradley Company in 1984.

Brian Goldner, 37, joined Hasbro earlier this year from Bandai America Inc., where he served as Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Goldner joined Bandai in 1997, where he led the Company's North American Toy Division. Mr. Goldner is known as an innovator in marketing new toy lines that incorporate interactive and unique play patterns for children. In addition, he pioneered a business model with multiple revenue streams for Bandai that branched into the arenas of both content development and production.

David Medhurst, 54, has been Managing Director of Tiger International since 1994. Previously he was CEO of the Adam Leisure Group, the UK's leading electronics toy company that Tiger acquired in 1994. From 1979 to 1986 he served as CEO of Humbrol, Ltd., one of the world's leading producers of hobby products.

Hasbro is a worldwide leader in children's and family leisure time entertainment products and services, including the design, manufacture and marketing of games and toys ranging from traditional to high-tech. Both internationally and in the U.S., its PLAYSKOOL, KENNER, TONKA, ODDZON, SUPER SOAKER, MILTON BRADLEY, PARKER BROTHERS, TIGER, HASBRO INTERACTIVE, MICROPROSE, GALOOB and WIZARDS OF THE COAST brands and products provide the highest quality and most recognizable play experiences in the world.
