Ten-year-old David Michon from Irvine, California, USA, and 13-year-old Peter Nagy of Budapest, Hungary, were each named the ``Best LEGO Builders in the Galaxy'' today after an intense two-hour buildoff at LEGOLAND California against the top 35 builders from throughout the world. The LEGO Star Wars Galactic Challenge World Championship challenged competitors to design and build a futuristic invention - in just two hours. Each child's creation was judged on: originality; engineering, construction and detail; and creative use of LEGO bricks to reflect the contest theme. David competed in the five-to-10 age category and transformed a stack of more than 3,500 LEGO bricks into a self-titled ``Intergalactic LEGO Factory'' with moving, brightly-colored LEGO ``pistons.'' It is designed to transport LEGO toys to children throughout the world. Peter's (11-16 age category) motorized ``Global Ring'' is designed to protect the world against pollution. David and Peter each receive an out of this world Grand Prize, including a life-sized Star Wars character of their choice, built completely out of LEGO bricks and autographed by Star Wars creator, George Lucas. They also receive a family trip to LEGO Company headquarters in Denmark, where they will participate in behind-the-scenes development of new LEGO Star Wars product. Participating countries included: the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Norway, Germany, Hungary, New Zealand, Mexico, Sweden, Japan, Austria, the Philippines, Trinidad, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland and South Korea.
