"Never Removed From Box", an abbreviation used in the description of a
toy's condition.

Orange Card
Refers to the color of card (in this case "orange") of Kenner's "Power Of
The Force-2" toy lines.

Play Value
The features, accessories and/or interactivity a toy posseses for the best
possible personal enjoyment while in use.
 
Price Guide
Publications that are geared towards action figure collecting. Most include
listings of the current value placed on toys in todays after market along
with a sneak preview of soon-to-be-released toys related to action figures.
 
Prototype
These are the test molds of future figures. Usually made for the sole purpose
of showing the detail of the figure before it goes into full production
and for the most part appear unpainted. Most prototypes never leave the
buildings of the manufacture, but some do slip out to be sold on the secondary
market. Sometimes they obtained by action figure magazines to be given
away in a contest.
 
POTF
"Power Of The Force", an abbreviation for one of Kenner's Star
Wars toy lines produced in 1985.
 
POTF2
"Power Of The Force-2", an abbreviation for one of Kenner's Star
Wars toy lines produced from 1995 to current.
 
Proof-Of-Purchase (or POP)
An abbreviation for the white area which displays the bar code for a retail
item. Found on most all product packaging from potato chips to toys.

Rain Check
A request form offered by toy stores for items carried by the store but
is not available in existing stock. Otherwise known as a "waiting
list".
 
RASSC
"rec.arts.sf.starwars.collecting", an abbreviation for the internet
newsgroup.
 
Re-Issue
A manufacturing process of re-producing or re-casting a toy from an existing
mold and re-distributing it to toy retailers. Usually following a sell-out
of the original run.
 
Repaint (re-deco)
A manufacturing process of repainting or casting an existing toy in a different
color plastic in order to create a "new" toy.
 
ROTJ
"Return Of The Jedi", an abbreviation for the movie and one of
Kenner's Star Wars toy lines.
 
RAFTD
"rec.toys.action-figures.discuss", an abbreviation for the internet
newsgroup.

S

Secondary Market
Please see After-Market.
 
Semi-Exclusive
Similar to an exclusive (see "Exclusive"), but with more than
one retailer offering the "exclusive" product. Please see
Collector's crash course - part 2 for more details.
 
Shortpack
A figure that is packed in reduced ratios per shipment case. Typically
one per case, while the other figures in the same case come two, three
or even four to a case.
 
SOTE
"Shadows Of The Empire", an abbreviation for the comic book and
one of Kenner's Star Wars toy lines.
 
SW
"Star Wars", an abbreviation for the movie and Kenner's entire
Star Wars toy line.

T

Tri-Logo
Refers to the logo of a toy line (ALIENS, X-MEN, etc.) that appears in
three different languages on the toy's packaging. Most commonly associated
with "forgin cards".
 
TRU
An abbreviation for the major retail toy store, Toys 'R' Us.
 
12-Back (21-Back, etc.)
An abbreviation refering to the card's backside from Kenner's Star Wars
action figure lines. From 1978-'85, Kenner showed a photo of the available
figures. The first series had 12 figures shown on the back. Subsequent
cardbacks were updated with additional figures as the line grew in size
up to 92 figures on the back of the Power Of The Force cards.

Variation
Variations are minor changes made to the figure which usually result from
one or more of the following: the correction of flaws or defects that made
it into the retail market, changes to comply with government safety regulations,
or identical figures produced in different molds.
