Quidditch Cup Expansion for Harry Potter TCG

Harry Potter card gameRENTON, Wash.--Nov. 7, 2001-- Wizards of the Coast Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro Inc. (NYSE:HAS), announced today that the Quidditch(TM) Cup expansion for the Harry Potter(TM) trading card game (TCG) will be available in stores nationwide on Nov. 16, 2001. The Quidditch Cup set is the premier expansion released for the wildly popular Harry Potter TCG, which is on its third print run and is the company's most successful new product launch to date.

The Quidditch Cup set is based on the popular high-flying game of Quidditch, a sport likened to a cross between soccer and dodge ball aboard broomsticks, played by Harry Potter and his friends in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone(TM), the first novel in the Harry Potter series. This new card set gives players and collectors more than 70 all-new cards with original artwork depicting the magical and exciting world of Harry Potter: Quidditch-themed Spells; Items and Lessons and Match cards (a completely new card type). The additional game cards allow for even more game-play combinations, making the Harry Potter TCG a new adventure every time you play. No game is ever the same twice.

The Harry Potter TCG gives players the opportunity to expand their experience in the world of Harry Potter by providing them with situations similar to those that appear in the first novel. In the Harry Potter TCG, each player acts as a wizard or witch in training at the Hogwarts(TM) School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and, through a series of turns, attempts to eliminate his or her opponent's cards. The first player to make his or her opponent's cards "disappear" wins. In the Base Set, players were introduced to six different types of cards that capture various elements of the novel: Characters, Spells, Creatures, Items, Adventures and Lessons.

The Harry Potter: Quidditch Cup expansion will be available in 11-card boosters, which contain randomly inserted cards that offer players the chance to play with and collect rare premium cards. Each booster has a suggested retail price of $3.29. More information about the Quidditch Cup expansion can be found at wizards.com/harrypotter.

Wizards of the Coast is the worldwide market share leader in the TCG and tabletop roleplaying game categories. A leading developer and publisher of game-based entertainment products, as well as the owner and operator of one of the nation's largest specialty game retail chains, the company holds an exclusive patent on the play mechanic of TCGs and produces the world's best-selling Pokemon(R) and Magic: The Gathering(R) TCGs.
