Wrestling Ain't A Boys Only Club - Here Comes WOW
|
Fresh Water Spigot, a specialized licensing and creative services agency, has been awarded the consumer merchandising and licensing program for the new action entertainment television series WOW - Women of Wrestling, company officials announced today. ``We are excited to be involved with such a great entertainment property,'' said Michealene Cristini Risley, president of Fresh Water Spigot. ``Women of Wrestling is a skill-based show that takes advantage of an incredibly popular genre while providing a quality platform for these women athletes. It is great fun!'' Produced by David McLane Enterprises and distributed worldwide by MG/Perin Inc., WOW - Women of Wrestling is a weekly, one-hour, first-run syndicated show scheduled to debut in fall 2000. The action entertainment series features athletic female wrestlers portraying action heroes. The characters and story lines will emphasize the struggle of good vs. evil. Although it is expected to draw a strong 18-34 male audience, WOW will be strategically positioned to embrace a female audience as well. ``Too long in wrestling women have been portrayed with a sexist slant,'' said WOW creator David McLane. ``'WOW' gives them their own platform as athletes and stars, not a sideshow. In 'WOW' the women are the main event.'' With 48 weeks of original programming to support its licensing program, McLane expects WOW to be the next big entertainment licensing hit. ``Michealene's involvement in the licensing and entertainment industries, along with her in-depth work in the area of young women and technology makes Fresh Water Spigot uniquely qualified to properly position WOW in the marketplace to embrace a wider audience,'' McLane added. Cristini Risley is a 20-year veteran of the interactive and entertainment industries where she has served as vice president and general manager of licensing and character development for Sega of America Inc. and senior vice president of development and production for Marvel Productions. She also participated in the Sega's Girls Task Force, a pioneering effort targeting the untapped female video game market. Based in Northern California, Fresh Water Spigot has represented properties such as Nike, IMG, Midway and Acclaim as well as sports personalities including Tiger Woods, soccer star Ronaldo and Michelle Kwan.
