August 20, 2003 - New York, NY - In cooperation with DC Comics, the American Library Association created for Fall 2003 a poster and bookmark for their "@ your library®" Campaign for America's Libraries that features Neil Gaiman's Sandman, with original art by P. Craig Russell. The poster & bookmark, with the headline "A Book Is A Dream You Hold In Your Hands," celebrates Gaiman's Sandman mythology, the comic book medium, literacy and storytelling - inviting readers of all ages to their local libraries.
"As graphic novels become a more important category for libraries, Sandman is a perfect choice to attract readers and we're glad to be working with the ALA on this beautiful poster," said Paul Levitz, President & Publisher - DC Comics.
ALA Graphics also produced a DC Comics superhero poster & bookmark, "The World's Greatest Heroes @ your library," which has proved to be a perennial bestseller for the ALA since its debut in 2000. In 2002, ALA Graphics created the "Alfred E. Neuman @ your library®" poster and bookmark, in coordination with MAD Magazine.
ALA Graphics supports the mission of the American Library Association through the development and distribution of quality products that promote libraries, literacy, and lifelong learning. ALA Graphics posters are created with the library and educational world in mind. This includes schools, day care centers, literacy programs, and libraries of every kind.
@ your library®, The Campaign for America's Libraries, is the ALA's multi-year public education initiative to speak loudly and clearly about the value of libraries and librarians in the 21st century. The campaign, which launched to the public during National Library Week 2001, is designed to showcase the unique and vital role played by public, school, academic and special libraries across the United States.
The Sandman poster sells for $12 and 100 Sandman book marks sells for $7. Both, along with the DC Superheroes and Alfred E. Neuman poster and bookmark are sold online at www.alastore.ala.org.
