The rules are easy:
1. I'll post something.
2. Everyone answers either "BS" (or something similar) if you think that whatever I've written isn't true, or "No BS" (or something similar) if you think that whatever I've written is true.

Ben Stein was a speechwriter for President Nixon, and in the '70s, there was some speculation that he was the Deep Throat informant. Mr. Stein's denied that Deep Throat even existed: "Oh, I don't think there was a Deep Throat," he told the Philadelphia City Paper in 1998. "That was a fake. I think there were several different sources and some they just made up."

In early 1985, Hasbro entered negotiations with Major League Baseball's all-time home run leader at the time, Hank Aaron...
...to join G.I. Joe as a physical training instructor. "Hammerin' Hank" would've appeared multiple times in the second season of Sunbow's G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon and would've had a figure produced for the fifth series of Joe figures, in 1986. However, after months of discussions, Mr. Aaron suddenly completely nixed the the deal, much to Hasbro's surprise, for reasons he's never specified.
Hasbro then worked out a deal with NFL star William "the Refrigerator" Perry to become the Joe team's PT instructor, but didn't have enough time for the Fridge to be included in the cartoon.

I had heard that there was a similar GI Joe story that involved Sylvester Stallone appearing as Rocky Balboa in the line but he pulled out and that's how we got Big Boa. Not sure if there's any truth to that one either though.
Rocky Balboa is true, even appearing in an issue of G.I. Joe Order of Battle. Big Boa was planned to be his nemesis.

The first product that was ever scanned and sold using a UPC bar code was a 10 cent pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum, at a Marsh supermarket in Troy, Ohio, in June, 1974. The pack’s now on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.

On June 26, 1974 at 8:01am Sharon Buchanan, a checker at Marsh's supermarket in Troy, Ohio scanned first product with a bar code. It was a 10-pack (10 5-stick packets) of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit chewing gum.
Today, the pack of gum is on display at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History.
Sorry! I confessed that I googled the details, but I had heard about the chewing gum in the Smithsonian before...

Bela Lugosi, probably most famous for playing the title role in the 1931 film Dracula....

For over three years after his passing, one Richard Keller, a retired schoolteacher then living in El Monte, California, wrote around 1,300 letters to various people (ranging from Lugosi's widow to Catholic priests in the area to numerous public officials, including the governor of California at the time, Goodwin Knight) pleading that Lugosi's body be exhumed and staked, for fear that Lugosi might be an actual vampire and therefore might not actually be dead. Keller was eventually banned from entering Holy Cross Cemetery by Culver City officials after he started threatening to exhume and stake Lugosi's body himself. When Keller passed away in 1961, his oldest son revealed that Keller had once killed a stray dog for exhibiting what Keller called "demonic tendencies," and that he strongly suspected that in his father's final years, his father had exhumed, staked, and reburied at least two human corpses that he had believed to be vampires.
