Los Angeles, CA (November 21, 2002) TOKYOPOP® continues to establish its position as the leading U.S. publishers of manga, and now the numbers speak for themselves. According to BookScan the book trade's primary sales measurement tool -- TOKYOPOP manga titles filled the Top 10 slots of the Graphic Novel bestsellers report and actually comprised 34 out of the Top 50 books listed (W/E: 11/3/02). The top 10 titles included Chobits V3, Love Hina V6, Marmalade Boy V4, Wish V2, Real Bout High School V4, Wish V1, Mars V6, Love Hina V5, Love Hina V1 and Chobits V2.
Designed to provide weekly, point-of-sale data with the highest possible degree of accuracy and integrity, BookScan sources all of the nation's major retailers, which accounts for nearly 90% of the graphic novel business. This latest graphic novel report demonstrates TOKYOPOP's clear and overwhelming command of the market. And with more than 325 graphic novel releases already slated for 2003, the Los Angeles-based publisher shows no signs of giving up its post.
"In my 20 years in the book industry, I've never seen a publisher completely dominate a category so quickly and with the high level of quality TOKYOPOP has. We are proud to distribute their growing line of graphic novels, and look forward to continued success," said Michael Murphy, CDS Vice President. In July of this year, TOKYOPOP officially named CDS its exclusive book trade distributor.
