These publications have long served as my "virtual collection" of items outside my budget. Both mags seem to have gone dormant. Anyone know what is going on?
I have those on my pull list at my comics shop, and he hasn't gotten any issues in for some time. I haven't heard of an official cancellation, but I'm pretty sure both are now defunct.
Like many magazines they had to be hurting. Back in the mid to late 90's they were just full of ads. Once the internet took over most of those retailers either went out of business or went online and no longer needed to run print ads. I always enjoyed those magazines and will truly miss them.
My comic shop has not gotten any of them for a few months and the owner said Diamond said they were canceled...yep I miss looking at toy magazines too

kinda difficult to read the internet toy pages like a magazine..ok I am feeling kinda retro now
The internet happened.
I've seen new Lee's Guides this year at Barnes & Noble, but it's been a lonnnng time since I've seen a Tomart's. Which is too bad, because Tomart always had superior photos I thought. I guess with the rise of the internet there's no need for magazines containing news that's several months old.
Funny you mention using them as "virtual collections!" That's what I did too. I figured if I couldn't own the real thing, then at least I could own a photo.

"Smell is the most powerful trigger to the memory there is. A certain flower or a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten. Books smell... musty and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer is... it has no texture, no context. It's there and then it's gone. If it's to last, then the getting of knowledge should be tangible. It should be, um... smelly."- Rupert Giles
I loved them both but Tomarts had a HUGE problem with their editor. They would have missing pages, articles would stop midway through and they would forget to add the rest somewhere else. photos were wrong. descriptions were inconsistent. It was a great concept but i see why it failed.
