Just read about it, so pumped! I honestly did not think that would happen within Lucas's lifetime. Let the dream casting begin! I assume that most of the original cast will show little, if any, interest in participating, also assuming the next film takes place shortly after Episode VI. If that's the case, then . . .

Evangeline Lilly as Leia. (Second choice: Morena Baccarin.)
Nathan Fillion as Han Solo. (Second choice: Josh Holloway.)

And given my obvious preference for the Firefly cast, I obviously wouldn't mind seeing Fillion and Baccarin together again, nor would I mind Whedon directing. Nor sure who I'd like to see Luke, although I also admit a desire to see the film take place far enough in the future to accomodate Hamill's age, as I think he would be the most likely of the original actors to be willing to reprise his role.

Interesting. Though I'm not sure if it is interesting in a positive or negative way.

The best things to come out of the Star Wars universe in the last couple of decades seem to be the result of Lucas allowing someone else to do something with the license (Clone Wars, Lego) So this is probably a good thing for the future of both Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

Disney has done alright by both Pixar and Marvel since acquiring them. Though it is a fairly short track record since either of those acquisitions. But it seems like as long as the new acquisitions can prove profitable, Disney is willing to let them be and continue to make money.

But I have to be honest, Disney owning as much of the children's entertainment market as they do troubles me a bit. Hopefully they won't start treating these purchased properties the way they do the Disney classics.

Mark Hamill is now about as old as Alec Guiness was during ANH.

Why does it need to be recast? Just continue it. Do a CGI TV series to bridge the gap between ROTJ & Episode 7 similar to Clone Wars, preferably more adult-oriented (even though they do show deaths in TCW) but air it in primetime!

I would love to see Luke, Han & Leia again. At least whomever is willing to return. If Ford refuses, kill Han at the *end* of the CGI TV series. But give us a few years of his adventures post-ROTJ with a sound-alike voice actor.

I am officially done. It is the end if an era for me. My 25 year journey ends with ep 3 and Lucas.

What a steal, 4 Billion, that's it? I see good things here as long as Disney puts together a good creative team that does not include Rick McCallum..whoops too late..check IMDB.

As they discuss Episode 7 all I can think about is the awesome job Genndy Tartikovsky did on the original Clone War Animated Shorts and I hope that some one with real passion for the subject matter is signed on to direct and produce.

Letting someone besides Lucas take the reins could be the best thing to ever happen to the franchise. I loved the Tartikovski stuff too, and remember when a really good director did a Star Wars film? We got Empire Strikes Back.
We'll see.

I'm cautiously enthusiastic about this. Disney has a whole litany of talented writers lately (Pixar people come to mind) at their disposal. All I want is a decent story and Mark Hamill as the crazy old Jedi. I couldn't care less about Han and Leia's kids, and I doubt Ford would do it anyway. Hopefully Disney realizes the folly of having too many whiny brats in the prequels and steers clear from that angle and just lets someone play in the sandbox to their heart's content, without Lucas meddling too much.

The most I'm hoping for is that Disney gives the original version of the original trilogy a proper (cleaned-up) Blu-ray release, which'll likely happen. And I'd also absolutely love to see Marvel's Star Wars published in three omnibuses, which is totally possible now. =D

Edit: Oh, and Pixar reboots of Howard the Duck and Willow. =D

I've got some other stuff going on this week, so every now and then I try to take myself out of the moment and usually end up thinking about this.

Except for Darth Maul, the podracing, and the duel in E3 between Anakin and Obi-Wan, I didn't care much for the prequels. So I'm thinking that the bar is set pretty low here - any new movie has to be better than those, right?

And even if it is not, it will be fun to have something new to complain about.

But doesnt lucas get to stay on as ”creative consultant”? I personally want him as far away from sw as possible.

.

”Creative consultant” just means they'll ask for his input, not that they're under any obligation to use his input. He's not gonna write a script, let alone direct anything.

All for this. I don't see a downside at all.

No more special editions or fetishizing the prequel era? all for it. Get us those blu rays of the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy, Mickey. Also, Pixar plus Wookies equals heaven.

Lucas and Star Wars is such a weird thing. How could he have created something so beloved and iconic and not understand it? The best example of this, even more-so than the pre-quels, is that when Smallville became a hit he said he wanted to do a show like that only have it be about Luke growing up on Tatooine. You know, the planet where nothing happens and following the life of a kid who is aching for adventure but instead leads a ultimately boring existance. How can one man really be that disconnected?

While I'm hoping we get something truly amazing out of this, in the end my hopes aren't high at all. And if new stuff sucks, the OT is still there for my enjoyment.
