I found several last night at my local Wal-Mart. I had no idea these were even coming. I remember trying to find out about KITT when I found the A-Team van last year and there was no information.
I have a couple of pictures and more information if you are interested at roctoys.com
It's really nice to still have surprises like this in the age of internet information overload.
Wow, no I didn't know that was coming! I love the little nuggets like that. I have the Ecto-1, the A-Team Van and the BTTF Delorean. I hope to find one of these KITTs soon!
Same here. Now if only Mattel would make an Airwolf. Any other 80's vehicles that need to be made?
I knew it was on the way (IIRC it was released some time ago in Japan) but I didn't know it was out. Thanks - I'll be on the lookout. =D
Nope, had no idea this was coming out; thanks for the heads up. It is nice to still have the occasional surprise like this, something very rare these days.
An easy 80's vehicle to make here: KARR, KITT's evil counterpart. I think the only real difference was the paint job and the color of the roving light in the front.
No one expects the Spanish Inquisition.
If we get Airwolf, I'd also like to see Blue Thunder get made.
Was there an iconic boat on Miami Vice? I never watched it.
Is Automan going too obscure?
The General Lee could be redone. I did get the original on that one though.
Not at all from the 80's but the cars from Starsky and Hutch, Bullitt, Supernatural, and movie Batmobiles (at this scale/price range rather than $6 a pop) would also get my money.
I didn´t know there was an Ecto1....Darnit! Thanks for the headsup!
Sure would love to find one of these -- now that I know it exists, I must have it. Anyone found an online source?
Thanks, MyClone
Mattel made a General Lee?! eBay here I come!
Man, I still haven't found the A-Team van. Won't be surprised when I never see this one either.
I still haven't found KITT either (...though I keep forgetting to even look).
Off the top of my head, some more 80s cars that could be made into Hot Wheels, that haven't been mentioned yet:
Magnum, PI's red Ferrari 308 GTS
Herbie (there no Herbie Hot Wheels toy, is there?)
A deluxe pack with Christine, the car from The Wraith, and the semi from Duel (fat chance, I know, but I think it'd be awesome )
The Griswold's car from National Lampoon's vacation (with dead Aunt Edna/dead Aunt Edna's dog variants - and hey, Christie Brinkley drove a red Ferrari 308 GTS in that movie, so Mattel could re-use Magnum's car for that )...
Edit - As for older cars: the Green Hornet's Black Beauty and Speed Racer's car, if those have never been done as hot Wheels before.
Hot Wheels has done a Ferrari 308 GTS. There's nothing specific about Magnum's car (Like Kitt's light), so they probably just don't want to pay licensing fees when they can just release the car without the logo.
Johnny Lightning did a lot of "Hollywood" cars some years ago. They're the same scale as Hot Wheels and often are nicer done with rubber tires. They did a Christine. Elvira's car. Even the Vampire Van from Dark Shadows. The problem is they also did some color variants, so you have to be careful to get the screen accurate version.
Johnny Lightning also did a Herbie. A whole Dukes of Hazzard series too with the General Lee to Daisy's Jeep, Uncle Jessie's truck and some others. Also a great Simpsons line with 4 different cars.
Mattel made a General Lee?! eBay here I come!
I don't think it was a Hot Wheel. Pretty sure he's referring to ERTL. Same size though.
Check evilbay. They have a few.
The KITTs are only showing up in the latest cases, like the ones in the recent dump bins. They seem to be one or two per case. I picked up three and left several more. A really nice car, just look carefully at the paint job around the red light bar on the front. A couple were badly overpainted with the black and you could barely see the red.
I think Riotact is right, the Dukes of Hazzard cars were Johnny Lightning. As far as I recall(I haven't checked lately), they don't command a high secondary market value and you can pick up some really nice models. The only one that I thought was bad was the "monster truck General Lee", which was just the GL on a huge lift kit. They couldn't have given us Daisy's Challenger or Enos' Patrol Car instead? They are beautiful pieces, though, and they come with refrigerator magnets!
I hate looking through the 'bin of shame' looking for this one! Did find the A-Team van the other day, didn't know that existed until this thread.
Does anyone know if any other character related vehicles are planned for this type of release? Vehicles from the new Batman movie maybe? Is there a good site for information like this?
I have never found a particularly useful Hot Wheels resource site. Even hotwheels.com is of no use to adults, which is fine since the target audience really is kids. If anyone knows of one, please post it here, I'd be interested too! Sadly, I get most of my info about what cars are out by searching eBay.
I'm not a Hot Wheels collector by any stretch, but over the past few years I have collected a handful of "movie" cars. I currently have the Ecto-1, BttF DelOrean, Arkham Asylum Batmobile, the A Team van and the '71 Dodge Challenger from the Green Lantern film.
It might not be the most informative site, but this is what I've used to check upcoming releases; http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_2012_Hot_Wheels
As for 80's vehicles, I haven't seen Robocop's cruiser listed. That would be cool. Has one come out previously?
I see a listing for The Mystery Machine on the Hot Wheels site. I hope that's from Scooby Doo.
Found KITT in the bin of shame. Well, I found 2 and my son found one. I stacked the looked through cars three by three along the base and on top of the other section. It sure helps to have a 6 year old boy with you. The first KITT fell behind the bin in between the displays. After I showed it to my son he said "Oh, that one" and quickly found another.
