Meijer, Random House Children's Books And First Book Bring New Books To Children In Need For Holidays

68,000 Brand-New Books Will Go to Children Throughout the Midwest

WASHINGTON, Nov. 30 2012 -- Michigan-based retailer Meijer and Random House Children's Books are joining forces with First Book, a nonprofit that provides new books to children in need, to give 68,000 brand-new, high-quality books to children from low-income families in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.

"We're delighted that Meijer and Random House have stepped up to put new books into the hands of children who so desperately need them," said Kyle Zimmer, First Book's president and CEO. "We know that reading skill is the number one predictor of success in school, and now tens of thousands of kids will have new books in time for the holidays."

The books will go to children at local schools and community programs in First Book's national network.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Nov. 1, 2012 -- Meijer will continue to be a toy destination this holiday season, offering customers the lowest prices on the hottest toys and brands by slashing prices on more than 400 popular products in-store and online.

The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer on Sunday will also issue its Holiday Gift Guide that includes 18 pages of holiday toys, as well as an online release of its Top 25 Toy List for the holiday season, which features national brands like Fisher Price, Mattel and Leap Frog. The holiday gift guide will be available in stores and online.

"Meijer understands that our customers are continuing to keep a close eye on price tags this holiday season, which is why we're once again offering price drops on a variety of the hottest toys," said Adam Whitney, toy merchandise manager for Meijer. "Our ultimate goal this holiday season is to help our customers save money while still enjoying the tradition of gift giving."

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., July 16, 2012 -- Meijer, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer, has announced the launch of the Meijer Next Great Toymaker contest that will give two small U.S. toymakers the chance for their toy to receive exclusive distribution on http://Meijer.com this holiday season.

The contest, the first of its kind hosted by Meijer, is open to small toy companies and entrepreneurs in the United States with 50 employees or less. Eligible toys must fit in one of two age categories 1-3 or 4-8 years of age. To enter, toymakers will send one sample toy along with a contest entry form to Meijer. Entries will be judged on uniqueness, educational relevance, creativity and quality.
