I bet they're trolling, it's probably a Barbi sub.

Only thing that could make me happy from Mattel is a Vehicle Voltron sub.

Most of what I'm hearing suggests it's Back to the Future.

It will be an all Nietlich line. Nietlich created characters and Nietlich written comics all personally packaged and signed by Nietlich.

People were requesting no extensions to the enrollment period? Really? Thats a big issue to address? That doesn't even sound like collectors, just Mattel spouting off.

That would be awesome...I was bummed when they announced the line a year or two ago and it fell through...

May be a longshot, but would a 60's Batman sub be out of the question? I don't remember if WB's press release about the license mentioned DC Collectibles or just toys in general as future merchandise under the agreement.

There's also the possibility of Reeve's Superman movies being handled via subscription. Considering they had the 12" figure license, and no one seems to have had (or exploited) a smaller scale Superman movie license, I don't think it's out of the question. Not only that, but going the subscription route would reach the target audience for a toyline based on the property.

While Back to the Future would be interesting, the character selection would be more limited than Ghostbusters, and while Mattel can make it work, I don't know if there's enough of a demand to get the sub going (if they're still using the infamous rectal thermometer to gauge interest). Plus, would Mattel be willing to make a DeLorean? A BTTF toyline with no car would be a very hard sell unless they scaled the figures to fit Diamond's DeLorean and that's not widely available.

I have to agree with Mr Tibbs, on all his points. I would love to see Back to the Future as well, but the figure selection would not be really great, there's really only 2 people we all care about and to see them, repainted...over and over ...... of all three movies; would be a far cry to get people to subscribe, I wouldn't just on the pure fact matty would try to sell us some major crap, I mean were blindly locked in to there sub....i would have to say no.

As for the batman I can agree, with the announcement of the 60s rights I can see it, but again lets look at the big picture.... (by the way im a 100 percent batman fan and would buy just about anything...) dc classics released just about every batman we can think of...right i mean what collector is going to want doubles or repaints of the exclusive figures we already have....plus an Adam West bats would be great but how much are they going to change it from the legacy brave and the bold batman? its really the same thing in my opinion, I just dont want some crap like the movie masters stuff, made to look like Adam West!!!!! Im not sure what they planing but my guess is, its not going to be something we like....I maybe wrong but im not getting my hopes up, and I dont think were going to get DCUC again unless they can make us aware of what were going to get a head of time, I would support a 52 line of the justice league but I dont think were that lucky..........

Probable a WWE sub since that's the hottest property they've got going.

That does sound like utter BS that people were begging Matty NOT to extend subscriptions. It was the fans who asked them to do that last year in the first place. And what collector could possibly have anything to gain by them NOT extending them? Of course they promised not to extend them again last year and then did it anyway. They'll probably renege again and extend them for a third year due to "overwhelming fan demand."

Mattel's argument against a BTTF line hasn't changed, namely the tooling would be prohibitive as there would be almost no re-use of parts possible. If anything, Mattel is even more conscious of that sort of thing with the Matty lines now.

The suggestion of a movie/TV based DC sub isn't impossible, as I could see them re-using some existing parts for that (though they'd need a new paunchy torso for an Adam West Batman), but given that the Infinite Earths sub barely made it last year, I can't see them expanding the DC offerings right now. My bet is also the WWE, as they've got existing tooling to re-use and it has a large toy collecting fan base built in.

Not WWE per MattelDesignTeam.

No, we will not be offering a Legends Sub in 2013.
Sales of Legends online have not been strong enough for us to consider this as an option.
I would love if we were to offer a sub, as there are lots of figures I would personally love to design, but it's just not in the cards at this point.

Continuing the WWE tangent, just a quick rant...

Perhaps Legends sales would be better if they didn't exclusively offer the most boring characters in the history of the industry. Apart from Andre The Giant, the MattyCollector Legends choices have been terrible. I don't care what the poll said, nobody likes Diamond Dallas Page. Nobody. King Kong Bundy is boring. The Rockers are boring. Arn Anderson is cool, but also boring, particularly without Ric Flair or Tully Blanchard to go with him.

I think Mattel has sorely underestimated the power of personality and the bigger picture in pro wrestling. Bobby Heenan, Mean Gene Okerlund, Jesse Ventura, Gorilla Monsoon, Vince McMahon, any referee; I would rush to give Mattel my money for figures of any of them over any of the Legends figures they've released through Matty, so far. There're also mistakes to correct. Camo Sgt. Slaughter. Barefoot Jimmy Snuka. Where are these figures? How was there not a second series of All-Star two packs with these guys in them? Failing that, why weren't they in the first series? Did you want or need a duplicate Stone Cold Steve Austin?

Last point, ECW. Find a way to get the rights to these guys; beg Vince if you have to, and make them all. They would sell, particularly to the MattyCollector demo. Want to test it? Release an ECW Terry Funk and see how that does.

Gotta do something while we wait for Hulk Hogan to leave TNA, guys.

My only reply to this is... Every store I go to there are fully stocked figures from the wwe, and there always there and collecting dust until the go on clearance.....

That's a Mattel/WWE fault. You're seeing the Mattel/WWE equivalent of Iron Man, Batman, and Spiderman. Those figures have been repainted a dozen times and despite that they will be gone by Christmas. You might also be looking at the gimmicky action feature figures, which don't have much of a collector following.
No figure from the 2 mainlines have ever reached clearance.
Since the beginning of the year finding WWE figures at retail has been brutal.

Maybe Matty is planning to pull a new rabbit out of their hat like they did with the Voltron line. Has to be something geeky enough for Matty but not mainstream enough for retail and with potential for part reuse. Maybe The Matrix? It's hard to believe that they aren't planning to revisit or reboot that franchise, and the timing of a toy line would be sort of like it was for Ghostbusters, maybe testing the waters with the fanbase to see if interest is there from the studio's perspective. And just think of the tantalizing possibilities Matty would have for more "guy in a suit" action figures with an army of Agent Smiths.

I can say anecdotally that no figure lines this year up until the Avengers movie hit have sold as well and been successfully restocked as often as the WWE Basic and Elite lines. I think Star Wars could've done better if Hasbro hadn't been hamstrung by the TPM line, but the news reported that WWE were the bestselling action figures last year and I believe it.

I do recall, however, some of the WWE basic line showing up on clearance at Ross/TJX type of stores about 2 years ago for about $5.99 a piece, but only a small amount. There were a lot of Legends that hit clearance too, so maybe he's thinking of that.

That's a cool idea, but is it something people would subscribe to? Chances of you liking all of the movies in the sub aren't very good.

Mattel Announces Second Tier “Possibility” For DC Sub
Mattel has already informed the fans that the thermometer would be back this year for the DC Club Infinite Earths Subscription and that it would have to meet the minimum mark to move forward for 2013.   Now they have released another piece of information to give fans hope and hopefully bring in additional subs, and that is as part of the thermometer this year there will be a second, higher tier that if reached, Mattel could explore adding a fully tooled figure into the 2013 sub.  This was mentioned today by Scott aka ToyGuru as he was answering a question on the MattyCollector.com message boards:

In the end if we do not enough subscribers, much like GB 2012, the DCU sub will be canceled. We’ll run a thermometer so fans can be in the loop! We even marked a higher goal at tier 2 that would give us the suppose to explore a fully tool’d figure for 2014.

But tier 1 is the base and we need to hit that to move forward.

So there you have it fans.  That is your ticket to Granny Goodness or a new Killer Croc or a correct sized Lead or…

Mattel can stick their thermometer where all unlucky thermometers go. If they'd say up front "2013 subs will include an all newly tooled figure of(insert top fan choices here)" then they would have more subscribers from the beginning. Instead of baiting people with "If the thermometer goes this high, then we'll give you a bunch of repaints with new heads, but if it goes THIS high we'll give you a NEW figure with NEW parts of somebody WE think you'll like, regardless of who you SAY you want! Enjoy your Shaggy Man!"

Lead
Elasti-Girl
Bouncing Boy
Fire
Ice
Granny Goodness
Highfather
Elongated Man

It's not hard Mattel. Give up stuff we want to buy, and we'll give you money.

OK, so the 2013 sub is locked and loaded, but if it sells very well they can give us some new tooled figs for the 2014 sub, a year later. I get it. But subs were about 50% of target last time, so with price increases and a narrower window to buy, what chance does this have?

And I refuse to believe that fans all over the net were demanding a shorter sub purchase window. If Scott can pull one post from any forum that complained there were too many chances to buy a subscription, I will eat my hat. It simply doesn't make sense, at all. Given that more sub sales benefit all fans, no one loses by having them available to purchase for a longer period of time.

It's fine to more strictly enforce the window if management or logistics dictated it, but don't just make stuff up about it being "fan demanded" - that is un-classy. It's just like Stinkor's messed-up forearms being an aesthetic decision - a transparent untruth.

I wouldn't say that, but I didn't see much incentive to subscribe again in 2013.

As a strict Miniternia collector now, I'm excited to learn I have Procrustus coming to me later this year, but the only figure shown for next year I want is Ram Man. As it is, I've passed every 2012 subscription figure straight through to eBay. Procrustus is going to be the only figure I keep.

Had Ram Man been the subscription figure, I would have had to re-up because I wouldn't have wanted to pay through the nose for him on eBay, so I got lucky there. I'm very likely to take my chances with him on sale day and hope Miniternia Trap Jaw wins the fan poll.

The DC sub situation is even less appealing to me. The only figure for 2013 I'd be interested in is Monsieur Mallah w/Brain, the subscription figure, but I don't think that's going to be enough incentive for me to re-subscribe. I also think something like Wally West Flash is very close to violating the no repaints promise Mattel made before the 2012 subscription.

No interest in the Watchmen subscription.

I think the lineup is actually decent for the DC sub:

Saint Walker (January), Phantom Stranger (February), Elongated Man (March), Larfleeze (April), and Wally West (May)

with Elastigirl, Lead, Uncle Sam and Constantine. So more Metal Men, more Doom Patrol, and some pretty good choices. Mallah and the Brain for the Doom Patrol and Teen Titans fans. I know people are probably sick of Rainbow Lanterns by now but Saint Walker and Larfleeze are probably top of the list (even though I already have the DC Direct Larfleeze).

Interesting about subscribers having early access to the non-sub-exclusive stuff that goes up on the site... wouldn't that mean that they would have to tie the subs to our logins, which was, I thought, the main reason they couldn't combine shipping on subs (or something like that?)

Same here. I don't want an incomplete one from some eBay hong kong seller. And with them clearanced out of most places, it seems the Kid Flash and Batman aren't going to be in my collection.

Watchmen sub is a VERY EASY pass for me might only pick up The Comedien but yeah thankfully it wasnt a Back to the Future series.

I just wanna know what happened with Mek a Neck?? Didnt see him listed anywhere on the panel so I would assume he was one of the September figures?? Wasnt going to do the Club Eternia sub again but of coarse King He-Man changed that. Also anyone else feel that the winning create a figure was a bit meh and kind of a cop out compared to the runners up art work they showed?

The winning figure is a really odd choice. Could be cool as a Spirit of Greyskull or something if it didn't look so strange. As it is it seems more like what you would see in an Eternian political cartoon.

The comic Watchmen figs is a huge big deal. After DC Direct made prototypes but never got to make them, they've been huge on many peoples want lists.

But even bigger outside the action figure community. That's the one property they need to advertise. A lot of people who are not rabid toy fans like ourselves would buy a set because the source material is so strong and there are no collectibles for it outside of movie stuff. That has the potential to sell to the outside world I'd they ever knew about it.

The new 3 3/4 line has promise if released properly.

Just to avoid any potential confusion, Poison Ivy and Black Mask are part of this year's DC sub, not next year's. If you want them, you'll need to go through Matty on day of sale.
