Not a JoeCon exclusive? Not an SDCC exclusive? Really?
Then, this weekend at the JoeCon panel, Hasbro tells fans to voice their desire for Kwinn if they want him. Hasn't that happened for almost a year now?
Sort of feels like something else is going on, at this point.

After seeing Kwinn in the prototype/cancelled case of figures @ JOECon, I grew instantly angry. Had Hasbro not put 30th/PoC on the backburner for the movie, we might actually have him in our grubby little mitts right now.
To paraphrase Chinatown:
Forget it J, it's Hasbro.
But seriously, I don't know what they're waiting for. I guess he's not goofy enough to fit into Hasbro's zombie or Beast Ninja sub-lines.
If they can't find a way to sell him, they should just make him a mail-away. Oops, they don't have Flag Points anymore do they?
From what I understand the decision to cancel came from Derryl DePriest who was (legitimately) worried about the character's viability at retail. After seeing the demand for Kwinn at the JoeCon this weekend, he's been quoted as saying that "if it's the last thing I do at Hasbro, Kwinn will see release."
It's just a matter of the right people seeing real demand for something!
tangential: who are the skull-headed ninja looking characters in Hasbro's new Joe mini-fig line?
They look dope, i want them, just wondering if i'm supposed to know who/what they are?
The regular figure in the concept shelf had a tag labeled "Ghost Ninja Henchman". There were several more in the Micro Force so I'm guessing the Ghost Ninja is either the one who looks identical except for the dark hat and blue eyes, or the one with the black Oni mask with long white hair.
Also tangential: Haven't seen anyone mention the Cobra-La Royal Guard and Cobra-La Mutated Cobra Commander concept sketches shown on the shelf. Never been a fan of the Cobra-La concept, but they could be pretty interesting with modern sculpting.
Is it just me, or does the Oktober Guard Col. Brekhov headsculpt resemble Steve Carrell/Michael Scott?

I'm just disappointed he looks nothing like this...

Kwinn was sold as an O-ring figure in a comic 3-pack in the 2000s.
The movie studio made Hasbro cancel Renegades and stop making new Joe toys for 6 months prior to the movie. Now Hasbro is losing another 6 months because of the movie delay. They got screwed on this one as much as the fans did.
I just hope they get away from the movie-style figures as fast as possible next year and get back to 30th-style.
If the BBTS Marauders and Dreadnoks sets were selling better, we might be able to see 7-packs continue online and get Kwinn and other figures that way. But they only appear to have sold 500 Marauders and 1500 Dreadnoks out of 5,000 of each produced.
Wow, the toy companies are getting it bad from the entertainment industry of late (thinking of DC's bombshell on Mattel that led to the quickly cobbled together DC sub last year). Sounds like a pretty bad deal Hasbro has if the movie company is making the toy producing decisions; not unprecedented, though, as I recall DC made an equally bad deal way back with the first Swamp Thing movie, where they supposedly had to almost license their own character back to use him in the comics.
I'm surprised at the BBTS sets doing so poorly; I ordered both as soon as BBTS posted them. If those sales figures are right, I guess that's it for the big exclusive packs. A shame, as there are still a lot of classic Joes that need some outlet to get made.
Yes, he was, but that version of Kwinn is based off of his first appearance. Not really the outfit you'd call definitive since his appearance in 8 out of 9 issues was in the khaki shorts look.
I think most people thought Hasbro would keep the comic packs going and eventually get to the later issues where the Kwinn we all recognize (and wanted) would pop up along with Dr. Venom.
The short list for me as a Marvel Joe comic fan would be these in their Marvel comics looks:

The Adventure Team Dr. Venom is actually pretty good.
Those first 20 or so issues of Hama's comic are the best Joe ever, I think.

I get those BBTS numbers because when they first came out, I could put almost exactly 5,000 of each in my shopping cart across the various combinations. And that is how much less I can put in as of last week.
Similar example, they had 3,101 of the 2010 Exclusive Star Wars Plourr Ilo and Dllr Nep Comic Two-Pack two years ago at full retail price. Today they have 717 and it's been down to a clearance price of $2.13 for a while.
