transformers masterpiece

to start, i'm wildly ignorant when it comes to transformers. all i know is like the classic 80s stuff and i want them in one unified, highly articulated scale. so far, masterpiece(s?) have fit that bill.

but i have no clue what's coming out and whether to bother getting the "custom" stuff if a "real" version is to be released somewhere down the road.

that leads me to soundwave. the new masterpiece is jaw-dropping. this is a legit "real" figure, right? if so, are we expecting this to hit us in a not so punch-in-the-nuts-expensive way? mp is currently $170. if i have to, i'll get it at that price. but i'd prefer not to if it's coming out cheaper.

i'd love some insight.

thanks

No doubt about Soundwave (or Sideswipe and Red Alert for that matter) coming, so far the only MP mold that hasn't seen a Hasbro release is Megatron.

Two potential problems: the Masterpiece series is not all in one scale, although I assume the newer smaller Optimus is to make up for that. Second, the latest domestic releases have all been exclusives. While I had no problem finding the Walmart Skywarp exclusive, I only saw the TRU Grimlock once, and never saw Rodimus at all. So even if it comes out domestically, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to find it (granted, I live in scalper central, but still).

so, assuming i can find these in stores, don't bother getting the import version, right?

Excellent!

Grimlock and Hot Rod are great figures..Grimlock is possibly THE best TF yet IMHO.

Skywarp can be had cheap.

Starscream is one I'd for the foreign version on.

Yeah, and unlike Hasbro, Takara occasionally re-releases big releases so if you don't like the Hasbro version you can still likely find a place to get the Japanese version.
