I know they are up to what series six? I feel i have gotten quite a few but have missed out on some i would have liked. My son gets the Lego magazine and they are really starting to crank out a bunch of specialized pieces for the classic minifigs. No longer just legs, torso, arms, hands, hair or hat for figs. I saw a Genie coming with lamp in all. The base was a stylized piece looking like a cloud of genie smoke. I think the peice is used for The Flying Dutchman in Sponge Bob pirate set.
The figs are nicely detailed and painted. I am very stoked about the LOTR sets coming. However they pretty much have the key characters elves, orcs, and dwarves. I have several already. Will be interesting to see if the variety that comes. It would be nice to get a new shortened leg piece that moves like the standard legs. I am not sure if the size allows for the articulation. I am hoping there will be a Treebeard with Merry & Pip.
I had to get 3 Musketeers. The dude in the gorilla suit needed a dude in the Dinosaur suit to accompany him to the masquerade. I had gotten the Universal monsters last time the were offered in sets. However the new versions were hard to pass up. And now coming soon Marvel figs. Love my Spider-man figs from the Movies but getting some Avengers will be sweet!
I know I have been spending as much money on figs as the sets.
What do you fellow toy collectors think? Are these little guys as addictive to you as they have been for me?
I would have gotten into the individually sold minifigures if they were not blind-packaged. I want all the other figures but I stopped after series 1 since it was too much of a hassle to feel my way through the packages or trying to read the invisible dots.
My kids bought a couple of blind packs but I haven't really gotten into them. What is weird is my small town Walmart has never carried any of the blind packs before and we got 20 of the display cases of Wave 5 in just after Christmas. Why the over kill all of the sudden? And sadly there's no figures in this wave that I have any big interest in. At least not worth paying $3 for a possible chance at getting one.
I buy them all and get multiples. LegoShop@Home just got in series 6. I dislike that they have a limit of 16 per address though. Obviously since they are blind packaged you don't get a set. It may be a while before series 6 hits retail. There is quite an overstock at the local TRU and Walmart. However, Target just clearanced series 5, so maybe they'll get series 6 soon. I like that they include a decent ratio of female minifigs. My nieces really like them for that. Series 1-3 had 2:16, 4 had 3:16, while Series 5 had 4:16. Series 6 has 5 though (if you count the Surgeon)!
I'm also loving the DC Super Hero Legos! I only wish there were more. I can't wait to see all the additional heroes that are in the new Lego Batman 2! I'm also looking forward to the Lord of the Rings license. So much money and space, but I can't pass them up!
I have a couple of drawers full of minifigs. It is a bit annoying to feel our way through the packs. It was fun father/son time initially with my 8 year old. But the sessions got longer and longer. Especially when my so wanted a werewolf. Took forever to find one. I suppose I have had a good deal of luck. Only bought a handful I didn't intend. But the figs a so much fun that it's alright. I have to admit I have gotten loads of minifigs for discounted sets after holidays. When the orcs came in the small box sets I got tons of them at a walmart for $1.25 each or something like that. Plus there were tons of spears and cart wheels as I think they came with weapon carts in that box.
My wife think the legos are great toys so she doesn't balk at getting the discounted sets. She actually gets into the collecting by giving me a buzz when she sees sets. She tolerates the Marvel Legends. Probably prefers I didn't. Not so much on the Legos.
If Lego puts DC characters in these packs to supplement the playsets, then I'm all over them, even blind packaged. But I'm guessing that will never happen. Has any one heard anything either way on this?
I don't think this would ever happen. I definitely won't with Star Wars minifigs, and I doubt it would with other licensed characters like DC or Marvel.
They make magnet sets that have 3 magnets with a minifig on each one. About a year ago they had to start glueing all the minifigs together and to the magnet because Hasbro holds the Star Wars figure license and they looked at those and said that Lego were selling Star Wars figures. But if they were glued, they were just magnets. Same with the keychains they make. When they are in the sets, they are considered a building toy and not a figure because it's in a set with tons of building pieces.
They could potentially get a specific license to do something like this I imagine, but it would end up costing way too much.
Then how is Megabloks selling blind packs of Marvel figures? Does Hasbro secretly own them? I'm definitely not arguing anything you said. Just Hasbro's logic doesn't seem consistent.
Even more bizarre to me is that there is a Megabloks Marvel wave 3 with Lego having the license for Marvel as well.
I'm sure they have a specific license to sell them. Hasbro in the past has sublet a license for a specific thing. Like for example they let Sideshow make 12" SW figures, but they get a fee for that. So they could do something like that with Lego minifigs, but it seems unlikely. Lego could have done that with the Magnet minifigs, but they decided to just glue them instead of paying more money.
I think Lego glues the minifig magnets for safety reasons rather than licensing. They also glue the magnets for their own licensed lines such as City, Atlantis, Ninjago, and Pharoh's Quest now.
It does seem odd that MegaBloks can do the blind packaged minifigs for licensed lines but Lego hasn't pursued that (yet). I was hoping they would do it for Harry Potter, and now hope they do it for Lord of the Rings. I think it's a pipe dream that they'll do it for the DC or Marvel Super Heroes lines.
It was a licensing issue not safety concerns. They glue all their magnets because it would be too difficult to have some glued and non glued in their production line, and it keeps them all the same to avoid confusion with customers not knowing or remembering which ones are removable and which ones are glued. Here's a brief news article on Brothers Brick with a response from Lego.

Is there a website w/a gallery of all the blind pack minifigs preferably broken down by wave?
Oh! Are we talking about Legos??
Thanks for the link. I never knew the official reason, but assumed it was either safety or licensing. Makes sense, but I don't like it. Forces you to either deal with the glue on the magnet figures or get the full sets. At least they don't glue the poseable parts of the minifig. It could be worse. I don't think they sell nearly as well now and they may no longer make them. They still have a few older magnet sets for sale (as well as clearancing some others), but haven't done any new sets for a while.
Yes. Yes we are.
That expression has me on a tangent. Seems Phineas and Ferb are a natural fit for Legos.
Found the new minifigs. Got the Staturme of Liberty, minotar, and genie. Cool figs. I have to dig out my Shaq minifig. Sure does look like the same facial expression.
I've been getting these since about wave 3 or 4. The only one I regret not getting because I had never heard of them coming out is the Zombie. He is just too expensive for me now. But I really love getting these guys. It's one collection that I have no problem picking and choosing (not being a completist).
I've been getting a few each wave since Series 1, and I love them. My favorites so far are the detective, Robin Hood, the robot, and the monsters. I also got three musketeers as well! I'm really looking forward to finding some of Series 6.
As for sets, I have a few Star Wars, a few Kingdoms, Winter Village, and a lot of Harry Potter. I have my first DC set on the way, and I'm really psyched about the LOTR and Marvel sets. My birthday is mid-April, so it will be interesting to see if the Avengers sets hit in time.
Not blind bagged related but...
Finally some clear pics of what we can expect to see.
These have hit retail. My son found these at K Mart on Thursday. I only bought 7 and ended up with 2 genies, 1 bandit, 1 butcher, 1 surgeon, 1 flamenco dancer 1 highland battler. Not too bad without a cheat sheet!
MUST. GET. NAZGHUL. MINI-FIG!!!
Any of you Lego-iacs know if they're making more characters from Lego Batman game in the new DC set? Would love to finally get a Lego Killer Moth.
Got the Roman & Minotaur for myself and (hopefully) the Genie, Lady Liberty & Space Girl for my daughter.
Got the Clockwork Robot over the weekend, which was one of the first times I successfully felt the contents of the package. Still need the Roman, Highland Battler, Genie, and Minotaur.
I start by looking at the dots then feel to confirm.
Roman is easy to confirm. Just feel for the spear. I don't think there is anything else in this series that is as long as the spear. I was trying to feel for the shield, but the stands get in the way.
Genie isn't too hard. Feel for the big round hat and the unique lower body. The lower body has the swirl at the bottom and the standard long pegs at the top.
Minotaur can be confusing. The head is easy enough to feel. However, the Space Girl also has a huge helmet. The Space Girl is unique in that she comes with hair which is an additional big piece that is easy to feel. You can try to confirm the Minotaur by feeling for the tiny little horns (separate pieces).
Thanks for the tips! I was trying for the Roman, but I think they were already all gone. The Genie description is very helpful, as is the comparison between the Minotaur and the Space Girl.

seen this?
Totally missed that review--and I always enjoy reading that site's stuff. Thanks!
Is there a site anyone can recommend where people can trade their duplicate minifigures?
