Aside from me, I mean! Granted, the most recent Playmates stuff has been pretty subpar, and the NECA line ending still stings...but those classic figures sound like they have the potential to be amazing. Lots of articulation and a focus on catering to the collector's market. Hopefully if those are a success they'll do a classic comics line or revisit the amazing 2k3 animated series with figures that do it justice. So far this is my most anticipated line at Toyfair.
I'm excited for the collector's line, but not much else. Those little figures are well articulated but the downgraded weapons and lack of any paint on the finished product just reminds me of the 2009 Trek line. Plus the vehicles can't be used with the old figures (compatibility is why I have bought tons of Turtle vehicles from all eras, because they all fit the Movie Star Turtles, my go-to set.)
Aren't the figures from the new series 4 1/2 inches? Isn't that around the same size as the old playmates line? I have a few on my desk right now and they can't be much taller than that. I actually just saw pics of both the new series figures and the classics line. The Nick show figures look really good and stylized. I'm a bit disappointed by the classic collection. At 6 inches they seem to be a bit too tall to be compatible with other playmates stuff, and the detailing is STILL off from the original cartoon. Most notably, the belt buckles are the wrong color and Donatello and Leonardo have chest straps that weren't in the original toon. That being said, I actually like both design choices but wish they'd have opted for non-pupiled eyes if they were just releasing composite classics rather than toon accurate figures.
The figures are actually accurate to the TMNT Archie series when it was drawn by Ryan Brown. And the covers of the DVD releases.
I'm pretty interested in seeing the mini line hinted by Jeff Cope over at AFI. I've never been a huge fan of the 80s look compared to any of their other designs so the classics don't do much for me. The new stuff looks far better to me.
I like the precedent that gets set by making a huge playset for them. Not a Turtle collector but I'd love to see a return of environments and bases to display my other figures in.
I love (almost) all things TMNT, and I'll be picking up at the very least all the basic 4.25" to 4.75" turtles and the 6" Classics turtles. =)
Here are some pics over at toyverse. It looks like the big dog and shark guy might be the new Rocksteady and Bebop, according to what I saw over at TNI? Oh, and the Metalhead looks nice.
Also saw pics for what looked to be Leatherhead, Baxter Stockman, and a praying mantis/plant looking dude. Still hoping a Casey Jones is planned as well!! The dog mutant reminds me of that Earth Worm Jim Peter Puppy.
The classic figures are awesome. Now we know we're getting the movie turtles too. Now as far as turtle variants goes, I'd love the 2K3, and a Comic version for them
I just want a really good updated Casey Jones figure.
