November 2012 Fast Food Toys Round-up

toys from burger king

November 6, 2012 - The boy collected just one fast food toy this past month, but it's a nice one - a Mario figure from Burger King. The paint job is pretty nice for the size. It has more articulation than I was expecting: simple twists at both shoulders and hips.

Let's see what's out there in restaurants this month!

A quick check of the web sites for the more popular fast food restaurants reveals the following:

- McDonald's has Young Justice and Littlest Pet Shop toys in their Happy Meals, with Rise of the Guardians shown as the next promotion.

- Sonic has Farm Tot Buddies listed.

- Carl's Jr. and Hardee's have Scribblenauts Unlimited toys, with Hotel Transylvania toys coming in late December.

October 2012 Fast Food Toys Round-up

October 11, 2012 - The boy collected only a single fast food toy this past month, a Where's Waldo toy from Wendy's.

With that painfully uninteresting narrative out of the way, let's see what's out there in restaurants this month!

A quick check of the web sites for the more popular fast food restaurants reveals the following:

- Wendy's Kids Meals have Animal Planet toys, with a "Toys'R'Us Holiday Surprize" coming soon.

- McDonald's has Hotel Transylvania in their Happy Meals, with Scooby-Doo Halloween Pails shown as the next promotion.

- Sonic is oddly devoid of details, listing only "Wacky Pack Toys" when you click on the "Wacky Pack Toys" link to see what the toys are this time.

K'NEX Angry Birds Blind Bag Cheat Codes

(Updated on September 20th after we bought two more bags and filled in the last three codes.)

September 2012 - Our local Toys'R'Us restocked their K'NEX Angry Birds section, and the boy had stars in his eyes when he saw the $190 worth of new sets. Sadly for him, he has cheap parents, so despite the "buy one, get one 40% off" sale, we quickly zoned in on the $3.99 blind bag figures instead of the larger sets. The K'NEX web site shows that the blind bags ("Mystery Figures") are exclusive to Toys'R'Us.

We had really good luck using the cheat codes for the Mario Kart K'NEX blind bag figures, so we were happy to see a similar code on the back of the Angry Birds bags.

September 2012 Fast Food Toys Round-up

September 6, 2012 - The boy scored just one additional McDonald's SpongeBob SquarePants toy last month. Don't feel bad for him, though, as he hit the jackpot in the form of the K'NEX Angry Birds sets during a trip to Toys'R'Us. So he's getting new toys... he's just not eating fast food to "earn" them.

A quick check of the web sites for the more popular fast food restaurants reveals the following:

- Wendy's Kids Meals have Where's Waldo toys, with Animal Planet items coming soon.

- McDonald's has Power Rangers Super Samurai and "Hello. I'm Julius!" (by Paul Frank) in their Happy Meals, with Hotel Transylvania shown as the next promotion.

- Subway Kids Meals have reusable lunch sacks. The sacks now feature Frankenweenie.

August 2012 Fast Food Toys Round-up

August 5, 2012 - The boy saw a McDonald's commercial last month and decided that he needed the Ice Age toys, even though he's never actually sat all the way through any of the Ice Age movies. The service at our closest McDonald's is less than stellar, so after getting him one toy there, I bought a set via eBay and thought that was the end of it, but he convinced his grandparents to take him to McDonald's two more times. Lots of Ice Age toys in our house now - I can't complain, because the toys are actually quite nice.

The new promo at McDonald's is SpongeBob SquarePants, which the boy again learned about from a commercial, so we stopped on the way to the Bronco's Saturday Scrimmage, and he got a cute Gary toy. You push it along a flat surface and his eye stalks move.

Where's My Perry? and a Free LEGO Monster Fighters App

July 13, 2012 - LEGO has a very nice selection of free apps available for the iPad and iPod, so every so often, I'll do a new search to see if there are new ones that the boy might be interested in. It's been over a month since I searched last, and today I found three new ones:

July 2012 Fast Food Toys Round-up

July 7, 2012 - Another month of bad consumerism on our part... the boy had fast food just three times since the last Fast Food Toys Round-Up: once at Wendy's for breakfast (so no toy), McDonald's (Gia from Madagascar 3), and another trip to McDonald's when his grandparents took him (a Pokemon something, now lost in his room).

A quick check of the web sites for the more popular fast food restaurants reveals the following:

- Wendy's Kids Meals have "Minute to Win It" themed goodies, with "Sports Illustrated Kids" coming soon.

- Burger King has outdoor fun-themed toys such as a bug-shaped bug light, a foot sack, a flying ring, and a bugatorium.

- McDonald's has Ice Age toys in their Happy Meals, with SpongeBob SquarePants as the next promotion.

Space Hero Kiwi Crate & My Wings Mini-Crate

FTC Disclaimer: Kiwi Crate provided us with the crates/kits in this post. None of these links are affiliate links. We supplied the boy, the cat, and the Angry Birds.

When I first saw the press release for the Kiwi Crate, I thought it sounded like neat idea: a subscription service for a box of crafts for kids ages 3 to 7, with everything included. The boy and I sometimes make crafts we find online or in magazines, but usually the more interesting ones involve something we don't already have around the house, so they get put off until we make a trip to the craft store.

Kiwi Crate sent us the Space Hero crate and a My Wings mini-crate. These are both available separately from the subscription, meaning that they are available as single-purchase items.

June 2012 Fast Food Toys Round-up

June 2, 2012 - We must be bad consumers, as we haven't gotten any fast food since last month's Fast Food Toys Round-Up. Apparently we are pretty good at hoarding, though, as this week the boy and I stumbled across several fast food toys from 2008 when cleaning out our spare bedroom. The more interesting pieces in the stash were a Barrel of Monkeys (with five monkeys and a cardboard barrel) from Wendy's and a Robin from McDonald's, part of the promo for the LEGO: Batman video game.

Enough about the dusty stuff misplaced in our house, let's see what's out there in restaurants this month!

A quick check of the web sites for the more popular fast food restaurants reveals the following:

- Wendy's Kids Meals still show "Leap Frog Leap School" toys, with "Minute to Win It" themed goodies coming soon.

- Burger King still has Monster Jam trucks and Pinkalicious toys.

May 2012 Fast Food Toys Round-up

(click the 'read more' link if you are seeing this on the front page)

Update: May 6 - RTM reader Jeff posted in the forum that he found where the Avengers fast food toys are, but they are not in the United States. Jeff shared these two links:

- ComicBookMovie.com reports that in the Philippines, Petron Corporation has Avengers figures as cup toppers, and that in Brazil, the fast food chain Habib's has Avengers toys. (The article has some pretty neat images and a video clip of commercial for the Habib toys.)
